Went at £16000 plus 22% in fees and tax. Phone bidder.

The other 105.003 went at £2800 on the phone or online. The 2998-4 went at £2750 in the room.

Did that 2998-4 go to you? If not, is it that bad with corrosion or something else?

Not me. I thought it would be higher so didn't bother checking it properly! Cosmetically it wasn't attractive though.

Unattractive probably because of its dial looking bald with all the lumes gone, but otherwise it looks quite clean and not in a bad condition on the front though. May be the best deal of the day, I guess.

Yes it does - but its not the same.

The Sale watch is a non pro dial.I am not even sure that it is the same blue?

I have seen several pictures in Omega books of a brighter blue speedmaster, though not seen an original. I took the print pictures to my dial maker and got this:

You can see its not the same blue from the WOK and the AJTT.

I posted it to kinda compare the two for people that are not so familiar 😀

Not the same blue at all. It was quite similar to the 176.0014:

Apart from that, the short plots and pre-Pro script made it pretty unusual.

Hiya, the blue dial speedmaster that sold for £16,000 was mine. It's was in my collection for around 5 years.

Came across this thread and thought I'd answer some things about it.

The pictures in the catalog don't represent the watch at all, it is indeed a blue dial sunburst dial. It's exactly the same as finish and colour as this watch:- http://forums.watchuseek.com/attach...72-blue-dial-speedmaster-145-012-p1030037.jpg

Except it's an earlier version.

It does have a replacement insert, but everything else is correct, including bracelet.

Why the dial is different, is a complete mystery to me, my guess is, and only a guess is that it's that it was a special order, as there was an article that I read that about rare one off omega constellations with special dials that you had to custom order from omega, but who knows, could of been a prototype.

The watch has probably gone to the omega museum, as I was told before had they were very interested in it.

And before hand omega did give it's confirmation of it's originality before it was sold.

Justin, many thanks for posting this information. And congratulations on the piece making such an amazing price - you kept in great condition.

It would be interesting to see if the watch does turn up in the museum, there was some very determined bidding on it.
