Must say I'm loving this thread and the whole story behind it.

OP seems a nice guy too.
I agree. The only thing wrong with this thread is there's no mention of Texas winning the national championship in 1963. Now it's a great thread.馃榿
And I would love to have a little southern accent!

Please take the time to write down your cousin's information (pro career, also) and how it came to you, as the watch's provenance. I know you don't plan to sell it but, if it ever were for sale, that information is integral to the watch's history because stories change and people forget, over time.

Oh God, this, this, THIS. I have SO MUCH inherited family stuff that I don't know the stories behind and the people who did are all dead.

That being said, my grandmother did write down what her mother's rings were and why the coinpurse they were in was special, and I treasure that little note as much as the rings and coinpurse.

My late grandmother did a great job of labelling photos and explaining as much as she could to my father during his annual visits to Australia. It is sad to see old photos of "strangers" that you know are relatives.

Years ago I purchased a home and later found a shelf full of photo albums in the back of a closet along with a few family Bibles. After some research I was able to find the late owners youngest brother (it was an estate sale so I never had any contact with him previously) and was able to deliver them to him. Long story short I spent an amazing afternoon with him, including lots of tears as he explained the stories behind the photos, many of which he had never seen previously. Cool watches are one thing, but family history and the joy of the memories they hold are worth more than any old bezel or the like. I am anxiously awaiting taking possession of my late grandfather's Omega for the same exact reason....it may be a quartz watch but it was his quartz watch.

Pretty sure I have one or more of his football cards. I can check when I arrive home.

Ah. I would not have his card. He retired before I was old enough to collect cards.

Hopefully the OP has photos with his cousin wearing the watch to go with the story. That would be great.

According to my Cotton Bowl program for that game, Navy and Texas both received similar Omegas!

Great watch for a Longhorn Omega collector
I don't think it could get any better than that. That, if it truly exists, would be a grail.

It exists. I need to make a WTB post. The game was January 1st, 1964.

My cousin played for LSU and they lost that year, darn it! (He had much more success with the 49's and the Saints later in life however!)
That's one of the things I'd like to find out as well. Was this face custom crafted by a Jeweler for the event or is this something that the folks at Omega were involved in crafting directly.
It's a beautiful face and I'm constantly amazed that it's in as good a shape as it is as I know he wore it regularly enough right up till his death that there was some debate if he should be buried with it on or not.
I'm pleased that his wife decided against it, obviously. It's a treasured piece and I have two nephews and a niece fighting over who gets to take care of it after I pass on as I have no kids of my own. XD (I'm pulling for the niece. She'll take better care of it I think.)
