BLNR or Sub

Regardless of the extra cost of a BLNR over a Submariner, which would you prefer, the Submariner 114060, the 116610 or the Master II BLNR as a piece to keep and pass on?

Cheers

Personally, I would go for a 14060 in tritium but if you want to go brand new then the BLNR

Between the Sub and BLNR I would go with the BLNR, which is one my two favourite Rolexes. I personally find the Sub too ubiquitous for my taste, although it is probably more versatile than the BLNR.

Between a no-date Sub and a Seamaster 300 MCo-Axial I would go with the Omega (something I did earlier this year).

116610 is my go-to watch, and I find it the best daily wearer I've ever owned. My first Rolex was a 116710 and it's a nice watch but for some reason I didn't love the look of the ceramic bezel on the GMT. The fonts just looked "off". The ceramic looks much better on the Sub IMO.

In my opinion, for modern models, 114060 vs 116610LN vs 116710BLNR, I'll go for the BLNR, the bezel insert is just amazing.

I never really like the move from aluminium insert to ceramic for the subs. If you want to pass on to your kids, I'll almost always go for a 14060m (or a 5513 if possible). The 14060m (preferably a late one with the parachrome hairspring, G series and later) is the best of both world. A modern movement with a classic case. Perfectly wearable, less bulky than the ceramic models, lug holes for swift strap change to suit your outfit everyday. The 4 line 14060m has a better overall dial balance as compared to the 2 line 14060m/14060 because the dial looks a bit empty with the small hour markers. The 14060m also has a higher potential for appreciation (mark my words, but you really have to find the parachrome hairspring model which is only made for around 2 years).

If you are willing to venture into vintage, the 5513 sub is like the 145.022 speedy, it's almost like a religion once you get into it. They are made for 20+ years and have multi dial and bezel variations, owning one is never enough.
