definitely SUB

I saw the black GMT today and it didn't jump at me. I felt the bezel was too busy and loud. I'm going green sub.

On forum photos (see above), the BLNR looks gorgeous, but it really did not work for me in a recent second look on the wrist, the bezel seems to overpower the dial, with the multi-colour scheme and bezel thickness. I find the Sub no-date to be a more balanced design, but the Sub a bit too common in the wild.

Have you considered a Yachtmaster 116622 blue dial as a possible third alternative?

I am hoping to take a look at blue dial Yachtmaster in the coming weeks, which seems to be a very interesting example of something in the "dressy sports" range, where the BLNR is also positioned. Based on the photos I have seen the blue dial Yachtmaster looks extremely elegant, but again I will have to see live how the thick platinum bezel and blue dial work together.

Posted the above photo from an old Rolex Blog post I encountered here:

This review also looks interesting:

I will post additional impressions as soon as I get a chance to try one out at my local AD.

I have both, but these threads always puzzle me. These are tool watches, and shouldn't part of the decision be made on the basis of which function is more important to you? Need a GMT? Need a dive watch? If neither really matter to you then it's more or less a beauty contest, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My personal opinion is the Sub is the single most iconic watch on the planet and the cornerstone of any collection.

For for me BLNR or the Yachtmaster is always a less common option. Great watches. Subs are awesome too but more common

Following up on my post on the 9th Jan. Yesterday I finally tried on the blue dial Yachtmaster 116622 at a local AD. I admired the Yachtmaster on its own merits and thought everything was well coordinated in terms of design. The blue dial with the red seconds looked quite elegant. The platinum bezel seemed visually better proportioned in relation to the dial than on the GMT BLNR.

BUT...I happened to be wearing my Tresor with a blazer and slacks and the Tresor just seemed to make the 116622 seem rather insignificant. The Tresor on a brown strap does work very well with casual business attire. I suppose if didn´t have the Tresor I might have been tempted to buy the 116622.

So getting back on topic: after having tried on the BLNR, Yachtmaster and Sub I would suggest the Sub. I might be tempted to buy a no-date Sub in the future when Rolex finally gets round to upgrading the movement to something based on the new 3255 caliber. Currently I a more than satisfied with my Seamaster 300 M Co-axial to justify a Sub purchase with the current movement.

Sub any day... The days of the dual timezone watches are so 2000! it's called a cell phone! you want to wrap your wrist with an iconic piece, versatile and timeless - you go for a sub.

P.S. personal opinion and from experience - hence i bought the GMT only to find myself trying to sell it for a SubC 😀

Although I would also choose a Sub no-date over the BLNR, I think some would argue that the "Pepsi" Rolex GMT is pretty iconic too, considering its Pan Am pilot "pedigree". I agree that the GMT function is much less relevant in today´s smartphone world, but I have to say I am quite hooked in using the GMT reference on my Explorer 2...it really becomes an addictive thing to use when you travel due to the speed with which you immediately know the time in another time zone...the downside is that it does make your grey matter get lazy by not doing the simple math required for the second time zone.😉

116610 IMHO. The no-date Sub is a classic, but I would go vintage if I were looking for one - the SM300 Master Co-axial is too advanced in too many ways over the current 114060 (as well as being almost $1K less expensive) to consider the no date. The current Sub Date is peerlessly versatile, built like a tank, and just evokes the iconic status of its 63-year heritage in ways that I don't see the BLNR doing. Of course, I don't own a BLNR or any other GMT watch - the only Rolex I own (and the only one I want, with the possible exception of a steel dialed Oyster Perpetual 36) is the SubC Date. So I admit it: I'm biased.

Regardless of the extra cost of a BLNR over a Submariner, which would you prefer, the Submariner 114060, the 116610 or the Master II BLNR as a piece to keep and pass on?

Cheers
J
I prefer the Sub. It is a truly classic piece, and I love the maxi case. The BLNR to me, is a bit more of a trendy item. Just my 2 cents
