Hi, all. Posting this for comments. It belongs to a friend of a watch buddy friend.

It is 18K. The case back says ref 2577; it’s cal 354 bumper, serial number dates it to 1954. We think the seconds hand is a replacement. My buddy and I know to be wary of vintage Omegas with black dials, and so I’m posting the picture below so that you can have a look and offer your comments if you wish.

Oh so close but I have questions about that first T in AUTOMATIC.

It looks good to me, so if it is a redial, it is a very good one. The radium in the hour markers looks original.

Without a good picture a waffle dial watch can be very difficult to discern. The texture of the dial can distort the text even in a good picture.

I have a similar watch and you can see my point...

The waffle texture obscures the text somewhat.

Thanks for the comments. I also have some waffle dials, and of course the print can never be a crisp as on a flat dial. Given the overall appearance, including the minute markers, I’m personally inclined to call it authentic.

Agree on this - post a more clear straight on photo without the hands obscuring the text and you’ll get better answers.

Somehow, that coat hanger ‘S’ looks a little odd to my eye. The top and the way it curves by the start of the ‘e’...

It could be the waffle texture. It could be I’m just wrong.

🍿

EDIT: I take it back.

Can't you ask for a clear photo in the daylight? It's nearly impossible otherwise to determine 100% if it's redial or not.

Looks good and genuine, as you mentioned the second hand is replaced. Beautiful watch! 😀

I can't tell from the photos if the minute and hour hands have the lume intact or empty slots. Am I correct that it would have originally had a clover crown? None the less, it is a beautiful watch!

Looks like the lume on the hands is intact, just gone black.
Yes this should have the clover crown, but should not be a problem to buy and replace.
