You might, sneak a dome, silver dial Connie within budget. I sold this 2 years ago for around £900 with box and bracelet. Prices have moved slightly since then though.

If he wants a Connie, I have about 15. He lives near me so would let one go as I know they are serviced and original. I am not looking to sell though. I have three cushion case and I am sure one is from 1970.

Houston, I have a problem.

I recall that @kov had started a bunch of threads with watches from different years.

Yep, I stopped after some mods have randomly merged some of those threads with no logic nor explanations. I inquired - no one dared to explain. 🙁

Last “birth year “ watch that was brought to me for repair, was bought by a guy who ignored the old tenet “condition, condition, condition”! It was made in 1965! It was running, when he got it, but not well. He took it somewhere for a repair, and spent a bunch of money on it. No luck! After he returned it to the shop several times with no success, he brought it to me. I spent a few minutes checking it over, put it back together, and buttoned it up. I told the guy it was not only totally worn out, it was such a butchered mess that nobody was going to be able to repair it successfully! By this time, his return privilege was long gone. So now he has a birth year paper weight!

Nice sparkler, @Robbyman ! Please consider posting it here?

Welcome, @Yo32Leigh - you're getting great advice. If I can air a prejudice, c.1970 was a time when mechanical watches were near a peak, and they'll still work one day when your grandson wears yours. I see you have been keeping tabs on "Recommended Vintage OMEGA WATCHES", and I can immediately recall three excellent Connies (but w/o black dials) roughly your date and well within your budget from just the last couple of weeks.

If it doesn't need to be Omega, then your choice really opens up...

Absolutely stunning Longines! Good advice.

Another bonus with Longines is unless they've stopped it recently they offer a free extract from the archives service and the certificate is even far nice than the expensive Omega one.

Take your time, do plenty of reading on this forum and view any black dials with extreme suspicion. The majority are redialed, however lovely watches can be found in original condition within your budget. Just perhaps not Connies.

These aren’t Constellations but I sold the top one recently on here and recently bought the bottom one, both within your budget.

Keep an eye on the ‘recommended eBay thread as well’.

Given you user name I assume your in North Yorkshire?

Testing my knowledge so far but looks like a redial due to age (circa 1965) and flat omega symbol?
Seller also seems to have some watch knowledge but still asking not a lot of money which rings alarm bells. Advertised as follows:

Clasp: not original

Dial: Perfect (No scratches)
Year approx.: 1965
Diameter without crown: 34.5mm
Thickness: 10mm

I've asked for pictures of the movement but not holding my breath.

Dial looks perfectly original.

It may be the pictures but it looks slightly washed out with the lume removed? The case is also fairly soft.

When you say soft, are you referring to the sharp edges that have been polished off?
The seller is asking £190

Indeed. It’s not a deal breaker and at that price just buy it (assuming you’ve done your due diligence on the seller).
If you’re not buying it, please send me the details and I will.

Bloody typical, the seller isn't responding to messages now. Looks like it's probably gone elsewhere and he can't be bothered replying when there's nothing in it for him.

On the same site I came across this watch which I'm having terrible identifying. Obviously this makes drawing a comparison to similar pieces difficult. Any ideas? It's listed as Circa 1963 Omega automatic.

Redial with a grotty movement. Pass.

I did some digging and it transpires he's accepted an offer of £450 on eBay but didn't want to post it to Oz. Not my problem, good pass
