I'm sorry but I don't understand.

Sorry.

We indicated in the book the known range for 220 bezels: 30.589.xxx to 31.008.xxx (updated information), but in details this is:
30.589.xxx to 30.599.999
30.990.000 to 31.008.xxx

Simply because between 30.600.000 and 30.998.999, no speedmasters.

Again I am happy when information can be updated, based on logical statements.

This kind of detail is exactly why any one interested in vintage speedmasters should invest in a copy of Moonwatch Only.

Invest is the correct term as well. On multiple purchases it will without doubt repay its purchasing cost several times over.

Same answer as for Farmaco:

Most probably changed at a later time.
Possibility 1: it was changed a few months later (one could imagine that the owner did a big shock to the bezel)
Possibility 2: it was simply changed sometime during the last 45 years, the owner/watchmaker being unaware that it was a special bezel

Thanks for your reply. I know the history of this watch. I'm the 2nd owner. The bezel has never been changed?

Farmaco as stated I'm no expert, but your explanation seems more plausible, as I have now seen 3 exams of serial 29 with 220 bezel

I have (2) 145.022-69 with 220 bezels. Both are in the range of MWO correct.
31003xxx
30596xxx

I also have (2) slightly earlier 145.022-69 with the movment numbers 30582xxx and 30593xxx. These both have DON bezels (for now😀 ).

I suspect that any 220 bezels with movement numbers in the 29's or lower perhaps lost their DON bezels to older 321 speedmasters and were replaced with a later 220 bezel. The switcher probably didn't even realize the significance of the 220 bezel. The 220's are only becoming popular now while DON bezels have been needed for 321 Speedmasters for years.

Probably! But you can ask the Extract of Archive to Omega and solve any doubts

@speedy4ever
Does Omega Archive now if this speedy had a 220 bezel when leaving the factory ?

Here is a speedy with 265........ and a 220 bezel on WUS .http://forums.watchuseek.com/f20/220-bezel-reply-omega-museum-134722.html

Just because a 220 bezel is on a particular watch, it doesnt mean it started out that way, just like many pre-moons have 70's service bezels. Parts will have been changed, swapped and mixed up over the years.

If MWO suggests a given serial range, given their extensive research and access to old records, I'd be extremely suspicious of examples that fall out of their observed range. If one is seen a couple of thousand away then yes, it could be an outlier. However, as you start to get a couple of million away, I'm the afraid the most obvious answer is likely to be the correct one.

You can have it on a 2998 if you want. Super rare prototype! 😁
It was just a interesting thread . That he asked Omega about the bezels .

Hi Farmaco. Can I ask you would the 220 bezel add value to my watch, or detract value as it is not an original fit?

I still think that your watch was born with 220 bezel, but I don't think that affects the value... It's just an odd feature...
