On vacation with my father in law and he dropped his 216570 on the wood floor and the bezel and crystal popped off as one.
First, since I know nothing about these, is that normal?
He was able to pop it back on and it seems secure but what about water resistance now?
Is he going to need to take it in and have it looked at professionally?

Not normal and zero WR should be expected.

Dropping a watch on the floor is not a normal event, so I don't think I would opine one way or the other whether the bezel should have fallen off. It just depends how it landed.

I have had bezels pop off my GMT before when it fell from the night stand. That’s not a big deal, bezels can easily pressed back into place either by applying pressure with tip of fingers or a specific tool. The crystal falling out of place is not normal, it’s most likely due to a faulty or loose tension ring. I would take it to a qualified watchmaker for inspection.

Best.

Ok yeah I thought it was weird that both popped off. At least that’s what he said, I didn’t see it.
It just came back from service too.
Guess back it goes…

Wait, the bezel AND the crystal popped off a 216570? Unless they made a design change that I'm not aware of, the bezel doesn't retain the crystal. How do they pop off as one?

Late reply but I appreciate it because yeah, that was sort of my question to the forum!
Again, I didn't see it happen, or the immediate aftermath - but he claimed the bezel AND crystal popped off.
In my OP I did say "as one" but I guess I don't know that to actually be the case, and maybe I misunderstood him.
However when he told me about it I did clarify that the crystal had also come off, and he said yes. And he was annoyed because when he put everything back together, he didn't line up the bezel perfectly.
😕
This was a month ago and he still hasn't anything about it. But he also doesn't give a shit about that thing, you should have seen it before it went into service a few months ago! Beat to hell and loosing time.
But hey, it is a tool watch after all....

Sorry, something still doesn't compute here. I can see the bezel popping off but I struggle with the crystal. The crystal is retained by a gasket with a very tight fit. The only way to remove that crystal is to either push it out from the back (requires disassembly), or by breaking it in to many pieces.

Even IF the crystal did fall out, the process to reinstall is far from straightforward. It's easy to find a YouTube video of a Rolex crystal installation. What you will see is that a special press is used to install the crystal with some force AND in a perfect straight alignment. Bezel installation as well requires force and perfect alignment.

Interesting, thanks for that video. Yeah...I mean I don't really know what to tell you lol.
I'll try to ask him when I see him later.
