I think to me the issue has been that I see more Rolex than any other nice watch brand, and any time I have ever tried to strike up a conversation regarding watches, I find that the person with said Rolex isn't a watch fan, but rather in love with the idea of broadcasting their successfulness. I know that this does not AT ALL describe all Rolex owners (BMW owners, Ferrari owners, etc) but it has been the case more often than not in the real world.

All things being equal though, I do lust after a GMT Master II w/pepsi.

Or maybe the token payment allows them to confirm your identity so they know you aren’t trying to social engineer someone’s account?
Token payments are a dollar not 10 !

You know what they say, when you look around the room if you can't spot the douchebag....

then there isn’t one? Or...?

You imply that you are the douchebag, if you can’t spot one, but if one suddenly walks into the room, do you cease to be one then or how does it work?

Yep - it's beautiful. Frankly it depends on the model too - I've never seen anyone wearing a GMT Master, Explorer (I or II), Milgauss, etc. But I'd probably say something if I did. I just was burned a few times on trying to start conversations with guys wearing Subs or Sea-dwellers.

The only time it happened to me was in Benidorm , I complimented a guy on his red line sub & his reply was , I'm going to call the police if you don't go away . But to counter balance this I complimented someone in Chester (uk) with the same watch & had a great conversation about watches . He said he was working in Zaireas an engineer at the time of the famous rumble in the jungle fight between Ali & Foreman in October 74 , and was offered the watch as part payment for some work carried out , The guy was a gentleman .

Remember that special moment as a young lad, when an older kid explained to you what a douche bag was, where it went, and what it did, and you thought to yourself, but never told anyone else, "Shit, I would love to be a freakin' douchebag."

Judge the person, not the watch.

That said, I am not sufficiently interested by Rolex's watch offerings to hold my nose against the stench of their brand arrogance and buy one... but I have no beef with those who do.

Regarding that forum, asking someone to pay as proof of identity is pretty tactless. If their "social engineering" attempts are that rampant, they should probably reevaluate their security, their membership, or both. I'd happily put that one in my rear view mirror.

Tribalism is alive and well here.

Stop being so pithy, and go grab a pitchfork or torch. 🤪

ag986's observation provokes another hypothetical question: Do a couple threads with several pages each of complaints about how douchy another brand's forum members are make everyone here complaining even MORE douchy?

Guys, this is VERY Watchuseek-ish. The whole Omega vs. Rolex thing is hackneyed. Omegamaniacs see Rolexites as elitist, while Rolexians see Omegans as having a chip on their shoulder with an inferiority complex. I gotta say that after more than a decade of seeing this kind of shit, it's really tiresome.

How about we get back to poking fun of n00bs who buy bad redials & frankens instead? 😜

. Regardless what nice watch someone is wearing I rarely try to strike up a conversation. In the few instances where I have I found them to be just as nice and friendly as when I spoken to Omega wearers.

...in love with the idea of broadcasting their successfulness.
The most popular thread on this forum by far is the WRUW thread with almost 94,000 posts.
