Best '70's Omega Seamaster?

First time poster! Started my watch collection with my Dad's '80's Seamaster and recently purchased a Seamaster 300 in Titanium.

In thinking about collecting more Omega's, I'm considering finding Seamasters from each decade of my life. Thought's on the best Seamaster from the '70's?

Thanks,
Matt

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the start to your collection! Photos are always welcome here, so please do show your pieces here for collective admiration 😀

as you may know, Seamaster is a broad church. In the 70s you have divers (including PloProf), Cosmic 2000 sports watches (an ancestor of the modern Aqua Terra range, perhaps) and more dressy pieces. Is it dive pieces specifically that attract you?

I love my 1973 Cosmic 2000, but a dive watch it isn’t:

I also have a 1977 quartz, which was a gift - not especially collectible, but a birth year piece:

I doubt either of these is at the top of any collector's list, but they both give me pleasure!

Have you considered what type of Seamaster, i.e. diver, chrono, alarm, time-date only.

I am partial to dive watches, though I do like the Cosmic 2000. Not hard over on other details.

There are various Seamaster 120 models from the 1970s that might appeal to you.

I think the Seamaster 166.032 just about snuck into the 70’s. That’s got to be in with a shout.

For the absolute 1970s vibe, I’d go with a C-cased Constellation or a Cosmic. That case shape arrived and then left, so to me they scream 1970s. YMMV, of course.

Cosmic 2000 diver? I don’t own one, but was interested in acquiring one a while back - luckily advice here steered me away from a bad example!

Very 70s style, though I think these came with an integrated bracelet (a very 70s thing in itself!) and that means difficulty in changing it out for a strap (can be done, but you’re basically looking at a custom job).

Not quite completely 70th but very late 60th a a great ancestor the funky ones from the following decade. The Banana (Omega SM 200 Ref. 166-068).

or perhaps a more dressy one? The 166.090 in a Flightmaster case design from the early 70th?

What about a Seamaster Memomatic, Ref. 166.071 (also early 70th)?

Perhaps the easiest way to get there is looking into this:

Old-Omegas - Brochures, Catalogues, Adverts & Owners manuals

There you'll find tons of catalogues from the 70th just by scrolling down.

For your reading pleasure.

Cheers,
Winny

edit: take this one here 😀
