    Hi Omegoids! ploprof.jpg
....So can some of you ploprof fans please explain to me the appeal of them? To me it just looks as if a decent watch was firmly hit with the watchworld's biggest "ugly stick". Just look at it!!!!
Being a vintage fan I'd be the first to accept my taste in watches is probably more conservative...but Ploprofs?....yuk!........... And to think they can cost as much as an exquisite 60's Speedster moon watch.
I do realise I may set the cat amongst the pigeons with my comments, but I am genuinely trying to understand their appeal (as well as reach 200 posts lol). So if you are a Ploprof aficionado don't get offended ok? Oh, and as a recreational diver I just found out a Helium release valve is really ONLY useful to professional deep water divers working at ridiculous depths and often having to stay in a diving Bell between dives..Utterly pointless for the PADI open water or advanced diver....so what's that all about eh?

It was a purpose built tool watch, and one of the best ever developed for its purpose.

Indestructible, utilitarian and original period design, completely of its time.

Either you get it or you don't but one things pretty much for certain, they don't make them like that anymore :)

During the early 90's I tried on one of these in one of the well known London Vintage Watch Shop. I was told by the owner, not to buy it, it didn't suit me, they were bought by "Italians". I was young and Foolishly, I listened to the advice. Bad call!
They are damn cool and always will be. Cool trumps good looks in the case of a Dive Watch I think.
These days I just don't have the swagger to wear one! Oh well!

Yep, these are bad ass. I love the modern one so much I bought a vintage one too. My modern one is my go to watch for vacation, paddle boarding, etc. By far get the most comments when wearing the modern of any watch I own (reality is 2 to 3 comments a year).

    Everyone to their own taste.
However, I can't see how anyone doesn't appreciate what super looking watches the Ploprof's are.
A real statement of toughness, visibility and purpose.
    What's not to like ??

Ok, so I'm seeing the word "tough" coming up.......A genuinely tough and durable watch which imbues a statement of "toughness" on the wearer? A shout out to the weekend Country clubbers: " All you GMT and Sub wearers don't mess with a Ploprof guy! " kinda thing?
"Cool Trumps good looks in the case of a Dive watch as Nathan1967 points out?

It looks like it was designed by a child who isn't very good at free hand circles. ;)

Italian fashion icon Gianni Agnelli famously wore one over shirts and sweaters. Those jeans are of course unacceptable.

I've been on the internet for 20 years now. I've become immune to comments regarding taste.

A PloProf aficionado myself, I believe the Watch Snob said it best:

The vintage Ploprof is on my grail list. Unique and rare. A design for a specific function. I like it.
Speedmaster is a beautiful watch but has been available in its basic form form many years. The fascination of the minor differences and the association of premium $$ put to those has little appeal to me. :coffee:

Purposeful design is cool. But why is the crown on the "wrong" side?

So it doesn't snag on anything while diving and to allow the bezel locksystem the be located on the right side of the watch allowing it to be operated one handed to move the bezel but preventing it from being moved accidentally.

The red thing is the bezel lock?
