Another beautiful day in Florida! This bike is 8yrs old now, a Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper, and only 24lbs as it sits.

In all these years and 8,000 miles have never had a repair. Just regular maintenance...cogs, chain, brake pads, tires. That's it. Wonderful bike.

Since I outed my "new" carbon thingy (last page) I feel I have to cleanse my retro soul here. This is the oldest one in the collection. A 1956 Crescent helracer (full racer).

As found except for adjusting seat and bar height to my size. No cleaning done and I might not do it actually. A true barnfind in splendid condition.

From the 1957 catalog

And a picture from the net and from the time (1959)

Now I feel alright again!

Edit and PS - weight with a ton of Brooks and steel seatpost and all (about 23.4 for the ones not doing Kilo)

I will throw in watch in the Brooks-mix too...

I felt 35 bikes might be considered being a bit too few so I put together the 36: th.

It is not allowed any nearer the real bikes than this. It could contaminate.

That bike garage..... It's worse than a full watch box, how do you decide what to ride?! Too much temptation - fantastic!

Fausto Coppi did use a "hairnet" helmet now and then but for the most part he used some oil to keep the hair in place...
The socks though - I reckon there were few sport purpose made socks in the 50ies? Even Coppi wore them high.

It's not so much that they are high, but they just look like dress socks with the way in which they are knitted hah.

Well - from when the wool shorts actually were short and had real chamois leather inside, the leather shoes could be shined and be used to go dancing (if you removed the cleats) and the helmet was more of a suggestion.

So I went for a ride today on the Black Creek Trail, here in South Florida.

Beautiful weather, nice scenery and a surprise by the side of the trail...

So many people fail to realize that Florida also has crocs. That's a biggun, you're brave lol!!!

I felt 35 bikes might be considered being a bit too few so I put together the 36: th.

Started with a 2003 De Rosa that I had bought cheap to get some parts from. This frame is totally out of my comfort zone (I believe racing bicycles were at their best about 1971 or so...). This is both aluminium and carbon and I built it up with a Campagnolo Record 10v group set that I had on the shelf. Carbon, alu and titanium. Butt ugly most of it. But(t) light...

50968940582_896a69b091_k.jpg

Also tore down the the ergopower handles and gave them some service (cleaning, grease and oil).

50968832011_9666662093_3k.jpg

Used a Seiko SPB151 some of the time:

Put together again

51740502664_518a188c7a_h.jpg

Then a Seiko SLA033 took a turn. And a cigarr.

Finished it with a GMT Master II

7,9 kg

You too are brave!!! No way would I feel comfortable breaking down a shifter and rebuilding one. Great job, and as always, wonderful collection.

That DeRosa is sick!!!! Can we see more pics of your timber frame bike storage area? It looks really beautiful.

I totally get this. Those 'padded strip' helmets would give basically no protection at all, AND they look awful. At least in Copp's case he kept his hair looking good! Dedication to cycling and to style! 😀

Recently the weather started to be really nice and I look forward to the spring and summer! Need to get the bikes moving again before the oil dries up. And I second ebrohman, @styggpyggeno1, we need to see more. 😀

It is where we live (my wife and I) - a 400 square meter school house from the 1860ies. The "bike storage area" is a loft above one of the class rooms. It is where we relax. Bikes, some art and a screen for watching movies. About 50 sq/m and about 5 meters high in the middle.

Lovely, I wish I had a such room to display my old steel bikes and other nice collectibles. Problem is, that I like to ride them all as much as possible, so putting them in an attic is not the best option for me. Also, I found it a waste of nice tyres / tubulars to leave them standing, as the rubber / sidewall becomes brittle over the years and I just feel bad for not rather getting a good use out of them on the tarmac. 😀

Your stand setup is amazing though, they almost seem to levitate. Do you ride them?

Omg, is this another rabbit hole? 🤦
Now I know where to ask next time I need advice on my bike, I’ve been biking in the city since I was 13 years old, and since Covid I was biking to work almost every day.
Not sure it compares with those beautitful country side pictures, but there’s worse than Paris in the spring.

In the great “before” rented Divvy (thats what we call em in Chicago) bikes, with a collegue and rode from the Seventh up to Montmartre and back on a lovely Sunday. I learned never to leave the bike lanes and respect traffic lights.

A very deep rabbit hole if you’re not careful!! Bottom line - a bike is a bike, and as long as you love riding it, ride it as long & far as you can 😀
