Thanks for the thorough answer! Cool stories and great info, all I knew of fixed gear are the nutty messenger guys and gals here in San Francisco. Good to see it works in OH too! (My fam are all originally from Columbus area or down by the KY border)

Yeah...Dad was pretty hardcore...he was pretty hardcore about only riding Brooks saddles too. Heck, back in the 1920s and 1930s, I wouldn’t be surprised if Brooks saddles were the only game in town...but Dad would still preach about Brooks saddles even in the 1980s and 1990s when a plethora of newer, more advanced saddles had come along. He would say that the newer, more advanced saddles would “light his ass on fire” and he’d always go back to a Brooks.

I've been happy with the one I was gifted for Xmas this past year.
Not the leather Brooks, but the rubbery one.
Didn't require any breaking in and has been comfy from ride one.
But this one is a bit wider as it is on my cruiser, and I don't spend more than 30 min or so on the saddle at a time, so I can't really attest to it's comfort on longer rides. But I'm also just wearing my khakis, no padded shorts on those rides, and still no discomfort.
I will say it is more comfy than the saddle the bike came with, so I guess that says something.
I don't think I'll be swapping out the Fizik on the TCR for one because the Fizik is probably one of the most comfortable saddles I've ever had the pleasure of putting my ass cheeks on.

When I was a kid, my older brother was gifted a (edit)Peugeot PX-10 with a beautiful Brooks saddle.

I was green with envy for years, until I could finally afford to buy one for myself a few years later...

Sure wish I still owned it!

... it must’ve disappeared in the garage sale while I was away at college ... 🙁

Second outing for this spring. The taste of blood was ever present. It gets worse for every year...

About Brooks saddles - I have got a few and I love them. The comfort and the looks. The weight - not so much.

In total I believe I have got 10 Brooks (and a couple of the French choice - Idealé 90 Competition). The ones not used are nice enough just to look at.

The "sissy" pre softened Ideale 90 Competeition...

Love the way you custom shaped your leather!

I do remember now that Idealé was the saddle on my Peugeot UO-8 from around 1972; a nice one but not a Brooks!

So, that’s when I first started drooling over my brother’s....

I always ride a fixed gear for exercise. I’ve just always preferred the rhythm I get into when riding one.

Here’s a shot of mine, it has a more sane 73 gear inches unlike maddog’s grueling 88.

I’m also a fan of the Brooks saddle. I put the B17 on all my bikes.

I'm probably going to be replacing my Continental Grand Prix 4000s 2's in the near future.
I'm a few years behind on tire tech, I even see that Pirelli has entered the market with a P-Zero bike tire.
Any recommendations?
Looking for clinchers, not tubeless. I ride strictly road in warm to hot climate with occasional wet conditions (those sudden afternoon rain showers). Higher puncture resistance a plus, not too concerned with weight.
Looking for a 23/700

I also know someone who this same thing happened to.
He had the bike up on the stand and was cleaning off excess lube on the chain (obviously with the drive train going), took his eyes off of it for a SECOND, and it pulled the tip of his thumb right through.

So, the moral of the story is, don't get a fixed gear bike! 😝

Took a short spin up to some woods, I live in a barren land for proper trails, so going out for longer tomorrow to explore. Was really nice to turn the legs again.

I love seeing the older frames.
I still kick myself for giving away my Scott Tacana of the same era, I have a character flaw of giving bikes away to folks I feel need it more than me if they can use it. The thing was an uncatchable lightweight HT, way ahead of its time in terms of geometry as was meant to be a 'city' bike with a super low stand over height and stack but was a proper alu mtb. Phenomenal with a full XTR build....which lasted all of 6 months before Richmond and Swinley ginge ate it. Gone but never forgotten.

Now, my Grifter...

No track bike for me, not with my lack of power. I use all of the 12 speeds on this old 1982 Tom Ritchey to get me out to Tomales, a curiously long and narrow bay in California. Saddle is a comfortable leather Selle Anatomica from Wisconsin. I like the 180mm cranks for grinding up punchy risers, as I’ve never been a high rpm spinner type.

Did 15 miles on the Peloton Saturday and then another 15 on the real bike today.
Not close to where I used to be, but it’s still good to be back.

This is in front of the Dalí museum in downtown St Petersburg, FL.
