Excellent work styggpyggeno1! High flange C-Record, sleek steel stuff, and a Bridgestone to boot. I had a 1991 (I think) MB-0, with the Mavic Dakar hubs and cranks, one of my favorite puffy tire bikes ever. Speaking of puffy, look at these 35mm tires filling out an old Holdsworth, pretty tight! And here is a project after hours in the shop, mutilating and carving up an old (cracked) 1982 Super Record crank! The end result is still a functional bike object, I'll reveal it soon...
Today's score: Intrepid duc 0, icy trail 1 Almost 20F when I hit the trail today. I made it almost 4 miles up this icy beast before my first fall. It resulted in a broken chain. So I logged about 8 miles (4 in the saddle and 4 on the hoof). Its ironic that I was more nervous walking back on the ice than I was riding on it. Here's how it is done. We lucked out here in Ohio a few days ago...80*F in February. Time to hit the road with some of our masters race team members...good times! NOTE: Mad Dog is on the far right on his trusty 2011 Schwinn Paramount Series 9 carbon with factory Dura-Ace.
80!? He thought with his mouth agape....I only see those temps when I travel out of state. Maybe next week in MD. Certainly the following week in Houston.
Yeppers...80*F...that’s what the Wahoo machine said. We were like, “Dang! It’s pretty flipping hot out here...let’s go home!”
Slushy/icy/muddy ride. Intrepid duc: 0 Slushy/icy/muddy trail: 1 After last week's 18F debacle (broken chain and humiliating walk out) I regrouped and got back in the saddle. Today it was a right balmy 35F and overcast. I managed a snap of the prep pile, but left my phone at home. No photos along the way. Be thankful for that. The slushy, crusty, muddy trail was (in a word) "Ugly". I think I prefer hard ice to slow muck. I managed not to fall, but to admit the trail kicked my arse proper is to do injustice to the phrase "kicked my arse". Suffice it to say, it was a brutal 39 minute endeavor. Score another for the trail. Not to worry though, I'm saving myself for fair weather.
Dusted off the old 1989 Schwinn Waterford Paramount [with Dura-Ace 7400] for some hill repeats today...man, I love this old bike...sort of heavy at 22.5 pounds...good for training!
My favorite mountain bike trail is on this street.....what a tie-in to this board! And beautiful cathedral oaks. The whole area is like this..in fact the intersecting street is called Cathedral Oak drive.
Headed out on my trusty 2010 Schwinn Sprint fixed gear [ 50X15 (88”) ] built with Reynolds 853 main tubes and outfitted with a Dura-Ace track drive train and a Dura-Ace track high-flange hub set...taking the Speedy Gonzales Moonwatch along [protected by a Raine Inc. protective band] since it’s Speedy Tuesday...good times!
Round 3 goes to the trail again. duc - 0, Trail - 3 Ground still soft, making the 42 minute ride a complete gut buster. Summertime riding events are generally just short of 2 hours. Tough rides, but fast and satisfying. This soft earth slugging it out reminds me of just how out of shape I am. duc unmasked
You know what, dude? You let that wig grow out a bit and you would have some seriously big hair...a humongous bush head!
Mrs. duc hounds me to do just that. I constantly have to remind her the hippy days of living in HI are over.
63, sunny, windy in North Texas today, a beautiful day to ride : The Hereford trio thought so, too: Carbo-re-loading was muy bueno at the food truck, tambien!
