Hello

I have a couple of omega watches and Im Now looking at a buying a 2998 Speedmaster.

Its the 321 movement, but hands, dial and tachymeter is omega replacements from the late 70’s :-(

Thats means No Don, Professional on the dial and Baton hands :-(

I like the Watch but is lt a “no go” or Can I get better serviceparts today. Its not for reselling, but I afraid to wast money on a bad Watch.

Welcome to the Forum.

This greatly depends on the purchase price of the 2998. If it's a "real deal" then sure, go for it! If the seller is trying to extract all the value that the watch should bring in top original condition then give it a miss. Paying a premium for the privilege of acquiring someone else's deferred maintenance and un-accomplished restoration project is unwise.

You might share more details with us, including asking price for this particular 2998.

Photos are always appreciated.

Trying to find original parts will be a massive pain in the arse and expensive so if you’re looking for an original example, it’s a no go.
However, if it’s cheap and you’re happy with service parts, it could be a cheap entry into a 2998.

I thinks its a Nice Watch

but then again - taste is personal - I also think that a Ford Escape looks like a Porsche Macan - I not sure that every expert agrees with me 😀

im the bidder at 40000kr / 5400 euro

It’s an attractive watch imo but probably serviced around the early 90’s with that dial and bezel.

Personally for much above 5k I’d rather have a nice original 861

The auctioner Said that it was a Watch that been In the sellers family from new and the service must have been done In the 70s ( T Swiss T)

but ofcource this is not sure, thats a true story

Doesn’t look like a 70’s service to me. I don’t have MWO with me but I associate that dial with 80’s/early 90’s.

I must get the Moonwatch only book…. 😀

The auctionshouse story about a early service and then 40 years forgotten in the farthers wardrobe is properly not True

That is a long S late 70s dial isnt it? Maybe it was indeed a 70s service. Either way it is not a watch I would spend a lot on, but if I got it cheap I'd wear the hell out of it. Ignoring originality, it looks good.

Doesn't match at all you mean. More like a 2998-62 or 105.002-62 serial. Or from a Seamaster chrono or whatever. That isn't a watch I would chase hard.

You do know that the auction house is a Danish...😲

I do not know where you live, but there is always a possibility to return the watch if you're not happy with it?
Do read everything in the fine print they have...
But auction houses can be a real bitch regarding this...😡
Learned myself the hard way!
