I've been trying to educate myself on the Tri-Compax and came across this one up for auction -- Pretty bad, no? Claims to be a 52202. Case & mvmt numbers don't match, but I suppose that wouldn't be unforgivable if the case wasn't 44mm. Then there's just SO much wrong with the dial. https://www.sworder.co.uk/auction/l...&au=855&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=0&pp=25&pn=1&g=-1 Am I mistaken?
A good exercise to train your eye is to list the things you think are wrong below. Then everyone can chime in, and you'll find you have missed a lot. (OK, maybe that's just me ) A redial? Obviously. But what are the specific clues that give it away? Wrong hands? What should they be instead?
I take it no one is too concerned about essentially "teaching" the less scrupulous how to produce better fakes? If that's the case, I'll post my thoughts on some of the Antiquorum lots coming up.
j What would be the point or fun of OF forums if we all decided to clam up evaluating watches for Frankenstein/Fake/Redial issues? Better to offer a resource that allow folks in this thing of ours to make informed decisions. With regard to this watch.. a 3 second glance immediately flags the bad redial and H/M hands, missing chrono hand (did these idiots post a pic with chrono function engaged? Possibly). Sad that it has a desirable moon disc. Once you learn to spot immediate undisclosed/dealbreaker flaws, no point in looking further.
