Can't help but think how these pictures remind me of the classic shot, as seen here on almost all For Sale ads, of the inner workings of a fine vintage watch

Good evening! Here is my 1974 Volkswagen Beetle Standard, my First car, and my High School transportation! A little rusty ( Thanks Ohio) and runs like a sewing machine!!

That's disappointing.
I've noticed you can pick one of those up anywhere in the $40k-$50k (usd) range these days.
I'd probably still buy an Elise, and save around $10k hah.

Different beasts, similar package.

Plus the Elise front clam shell issue if it ever gets damaged.

When you hit the level of uselessness that an Elise or 4C are, you’re better off getting a motorcycle. Same level of practicality/ touring ability, but much faster wayyy cheaper unless you go nuts with a really nice Italian bike and much easier to store for the (huge majority of) time you’re not using it

For years I have watched a company called Wirewheel Motorsports.
They sell a lot of "totaled" Elise's and they repair/replace the clams on their own and then re-sell the cars.
Honestly, I would not hesitate buying a salvage title Elise as a weekend/autoX/track car.
Especially when you can get them for under $30k

Exactly. They are track cars, where the 4c is a street car. They can both do the other but they shine in opposite uses.

For most people the clam shells are not easy or cheap to source or replace. Not knocking an Elise at all just something that most non owners are not aware of.

So may neighbor across the street just got a new car and yes, I've teased him about his front door matching his car. 😁
