democratization of luxury shouldn't come at the cost of brand heritage and prestige
Prestige ? More like desperation if you ask me.

i dont think showing a brands secondary value drop off post peak hype is a fair assessment, good luck getting one at retail and they still trade over list. A cash grab is a cash grab fine, but its not like they are going to use it to reinvest in their manufacturing capabilities to increase their produciton.

They just opened a new facility in Meyrin to increase production, plus the Arc in Brassus, and the Mussee a few years back. They need it for mortgage payments !!
And the current target audience is getting to old and/or extinct, they lost the flippers and grey dealers because there`s no more cash grab for them, so they need Swatch to find a newer and younger audience. Smart move by AP, they tried to turn things around with the Code, didnt work i guess.

When I got started in fine watches in 1979 the ultra sport watch category had three watches, PP Nautilus, AP Royal Oak, VC 222. They were about $3,750 retail. With inflation that is about $17,000 today. You can't walk into an AP boutique today and buy a Royal Oak at any price. And used, forget it. They are wildly overpriced, imo, but let the market speak. An Audemars Piguet x Swatch tieup isn't going to hurt anybody. No one buying a plastic RO is going to buy a real RO since they aren't available. Audemars Piguet will make money by licensing the name/design and taking a nice royalty for every one sold, and Swatch makes money selling the plastic watch. It's about commerce, that's all. No need to get excited.

With the depreciation of the U.S. Dollar vs. Swiss Franc, it’s about double that, or $35,000.

Surely taking out a loan would of been the safer bet if they needed cash for capex ? why risk tanking your brand, like its one thing if omega does it but a holy trinity brand does feel cheap

maybe this is how AP leaves the Holy Trinity to be replaced by Journe or Lange lol

I don’t get the “brand tanking” talk! It’s a plastic toy for $500. This is the equivalent of Ferrari selling Chinese made, E-scooter at Costco.

Also, they have extensive data from MoonSwatch to back it up. AP and Swatch get $100Mm each. A ton of kids get new wrist blings. Win-win-win.

Horology houses collectively asked: “what does it take to win back wrists from Apple Watch!!! They found the answer!!!

I’m sure AP brand will be fine. Or “fire”, as my daughter puts it.

I've been off the internet for a better part of the week due to travel, so when I saw this while taking a dump this morning I thought it was totally fake.
Guess I was wrong!

Not AI but the real Swatch x AP deal;

The white isn't horrible. But, I won't be feeling the need to go and buy any of these.

Might as well put them in a cereal box as a free toy.

Who would buy this? Twenty-somethings don't want pocket watches. Are they going after the 10 year-olds?

So, so confused.

I keep seeing these. And for real, this is it? My wife straight up laughed.
Last night I told her (she who is not a watch person or gives a shit at all) that Swatch was doing another collab and she said "oh with who, AP?" in a sarcastic tone.
I said, "you saw?". She said, "no - are you serious?"
Then I showed her some of what was showing up as far as pics and she literally LOL'd.
That does not bode well in my opinion. But people will still eat these things up just because.

I like them.

Presumably they’ll release a strap as well or what’s the point in it ‘popping’ out.

Then again, I also like the moon swatch and the fifty fathoms x swatch but I haven’t bought any of them. I do see a lot of moonswatches about though.

The savonette model will adapt to a bracelet without too much effort.

Temu is probably contacting watch designers as we speak (or write).
