Au revoir - and hello to my new Seamaster De Ville

Some of you may have read my post last week where I told you that I had just sold four watches to focus my collection. It seems that somehow every time I try to get rid of a watch, the right watch at the right price comes by.

Case in point: just picked up this gold capped Seamster De Ville, ref. 135.020. In my humble opinion, the watch is stunning with a dial that is almost as original as it gets (possibly resumed - well - with one lume dot missing at eight o'clock). Everything seems to be original, crystal, crown, strap and buckle. In other words, I just had to have it.

Just wanted to share it with you.

It is a beaut. I have a similar issue. Whenever I try to consolidate, I end up buying instead of selling!

That’s a stunner and not a relume- those pips are original- my 600 of the same period has that lume color and shape.

Your 8 o’clock pip may actually be floating around in there

I see something on the left side of the 6 pip. I had a chunk of my lume come off the 2 marker on my Speedy- it was clinging to the crystal from static electricity and would float around. My watchmaker was able to retrieve it and tack it back down- can’t even see where.

That’s a keen eye you have there. I’ll try and have my watchmaker look at it.

You found it! Now that watch can become complete again! Amazing.

My advice is only have a real pro attempt reattaching that lume dot.

Absolutely!! That thing can fly away if you look at it the wrong way. I can only imagine touching it the wrong way would just disintegrate it!

More likely the danger is re-gluing it.
I can’t speculate how they would get that perfectly round pip to not deform and adhere on such a small spot at the end of the marker using a liquid adhesive (I assume) that could potentially saturate and destroy the pip.
At least the chunk that came off on my Speedy was large and flat, so that was a little easier I assume.

Destroying the pip is not all that heartbreaking but a careless person with glue near the dial would be a recipe for disaster.
