Heads up gang - have had two messages today that appear to be some sort of really shit attempt at phishing.

Both reported, one appropriately responded to.

Thanks for the reports guys, yea they’ll always be trying to steal accounts and rip people off, never enter your details into any link, always type Omegaforums.net into the address bar yourself.

Also enable TFA, and if you see anything suspicious don’t hesitate to use the report button or PM mods, we try to take out the trash as quickly as possible.

Thanks for spreading awareness, and thanks to the mods for their decisive action.

Out of curiosity - what would happen if one were to click the link?

It would present you with a fake OF login screen and try to capture your username and password. They steal accounts of known people so they can then use them to scam others.

Interestingly, having not clicked the link, I got several 2FA email requests this morning... I have now switched to a 2FA app and changed my password just in case.

I’m currently feeling left out…

Also I will not flood it with scripts giving it random names and passwords….

My feelings are a little hurt that nobody is interested in hijacking my kit.

I should add that’s a typical scenario, there are also rarer scenarios where they utilise an exploit or something similar to gain credentials but I’m assuming this isn’t that sophisticated

TFA requests that you did not initiate yourself would indicate someone trying to get into your account but with the app you won’t see requests (app is the more secure method anyway)

Indeed, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy by Sendgrid are the three I recommend the most, they all do the same thing and are simple to set up and use.

I'm a fossil/dinosaur/Luddite and anyone could hack me.

But I use 2FA so I can't be compromised.

Hang on, just got an email, I've won five million dollars. I'll have to reply, back soon.

No, Jim, you have that wrong. Sorry. My email says that I have won that five million. And anyway I have already replied.

Jeez, you Aussies...
