AT Wordtimer size comparison 1861/Speedmaster

I’m toying around with some ideas what to add to my small collection next. I look at these things from a “utility” viewpoint first. I’m covered for trips to the moon or down to the deep seas. I’m ok for fancy dinners or playing a round of golf. What I don’t have covered is a real travel watch for multiple timezones. I don’t want another Rolex so the obvious GMT is out. I do like the new Tudor 58 GMT. But as an alternative and a long time Omega fan, the Worldtimer makes a lot of sense. Beautiful watch. But also pretty big. I feel ok about my Speedmaster (1861) but that’s really the upper limit. How do those two compare? Couldn’t find any side by side comparisons and haven’t seen a Worldtimer in person in a while.

I’d get it on the blue rubber strap.

A buddy of mine has the World Timer. It is VERY much bigger. It both looks and feels absurdly large (IMO on both of us), and we both pull off the Speedy no problem.

IMO, the biggest issue is the thickness, it sits off the wrist a lot. I find it is even bigger feeling than a Skydweller for comparison sake.

What about your travel to Mars?
You know, that’s an excellent point. Glad you brought that up. I’m not opposed to that at all.

Omega, iwc and frederique constant make similar sized worldtimer (at least 42mm) with relative thickness (at least 12mm). In my opinion, on paper it is comparable size to speedmaster except iwc. Unless you are looking for a more slim worldtimer, consider a nomos or a pre owned ming 29.01/brand new ming 29.01 Dubai edition.

Nah. None of those are my cup of tea. The IWC is alright and in general I like some of their designs - but almost always too big. Mark series is really the only one on the list long term. Hard pass for me on East German watches (yes, including the top dog). And Ming I don’t get at all (price is a joke for what it is).
