Astronauts wore Rolex GMT's and not just Speedmasters. Say it isn't so...

Scott Crossfield was an extremely nice guy. I met him in DC years ago. We chatted about the X-planes and Edwards back in the day. I was saddened to learn of his loss in a storm over Georgia. Never fly through a thunderstorm in peacetime. I don't think the Notams were accurate for that day.

I would love to own a Rolex GMT however i think my Sub is the only Rolex i am going to own for a while.

I do have the 2008 Bulova Accutron Astronaut Limited Edition GMT Automatic that was made with Buzz Aldrin. It has an engraved copy of his signature on the case back. There was only 1000 made and the case back looks like a window on Apollo. The watch uses the ETA 2892-2 21j movement.

October 14, 1947, the sound barrier aka "the demon that lived in the air" was officially broken by an aircraft in level flight piloted by Charles "Chuck" Yeager after a drop from a B-29 aircraft above Muroc Army airfield in Southern California... However this event was only made public in the summer of 1948 and the US Postal service only made Postal Airmail covers/cards in January 1949 !
Exactly 35 years ago I saw the movie " The Right Stuff " for the first time as I just inscribed myself as an aspirant pilot in the Armed Forces. The film was based on Tom Wolfe's 1979 non-fiction book by the same title and later on I learned that Charles Yeager played a cameo roll in this movie ( as a cowboy visiting Pancho Barnes' bar ) and was present as a consultant during several filming sequences in 1982-83.
I'll never forget this sentence: " They were called test pilots... And no one knew their names! "

Here is Chuck Yeager's 1675 Rolex GMT, or at least one of them.

Yeager gave his personal GMT watch to his close friend Joe Engle and it's now worn by Joe's wife Jeanie.

Wonderful! I bet that watch has some stories to tell...

Superb photo of Joe Engle's Speedmaster close together with his wife's (ex-Yeager) GMT-master Pepsi !
Some nice photos on the Yeager website " Gallery " webpage, showing the " best pilot You ever saw " wearing a Rolex wristwatch 👍

Those who have read my articles know that also Soviet-Russian pilots were keen on Rolex pilot watches.
In 1971(Soyuz-10 training) and in 1974 (ASTP-training in USA) cosmonaut Vladimir Shatalov was pictured wearing a Rolex GMT-master Pepsi.
Here's a 1974 photo of Russia's third cosmonaut Adriyan Nikolayev in his military uniform, wearing a Rolex GMT-master, as Deputy Director of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Moscow Oblast

Could naval aviator/USMC/astronaut Robert "Bob" Overmyer be wearing a Rolex Submariner in this 1970 NASA Lewis Research Center photo ?

NASA test pilots Gerry Getry (left), Bill Dana (right) and Cec Powell (kneeling) all wore a Rolex GMT-master, posing in front of the Northrop M2-F3 lifting body for a groupphoto in December 1971. William Bill Dana was still wearing a Rolex watch when he got his NASA astronaut wings in August 2005...

22 years ago... April 1998 Space Shuttle mission STS-90 with orbiter " Columbia " was piloted by US Navy test pilot Scott "Scooter" Altman.
The 16-day mission marked the last flight of ESA's SpaceLab module and it was the first time an OMS burn was required during ascent to space.
First-timer astronauts Scott Altman and Canadian mission specialist Dafydd Williams both wore a personal Rolex Submariner on STS-90...
.

Edit:
22 years ago... as it was April 1998 ( confused with STS-109 during which Altman wore another two tone Submariner )

@SpeedyPhill you really should credit the photos you post. Not necessarily to me who originally found, paid for access to the photo, and posted it in the other thread but to NASA as I originally did but you conveniently cover up with the inset picture on the bottom left.

All spaceflight photos are NASA or ESA, even RosCosmos and can be requested at these space agencies, especially if one plans to write an article about the subject. A good source to start a search in HighRes NASA photos = https://www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2explore/
Here's Scott Altman again on STS-106 " Atlantis " in September 2000
