Asking for your opinion - polished my SMC

Hi everybody,

I recently decided to polish my 1968 SMC.
Usually it's a big no-no, but since it is after all a relatively basic/"starter"/cheaper/more common model - as well as looking a little too rough IMO - I decided to go for it.

I am really interested in hearing what you think about the results. I hope I didn't go too far, really tried to keep the lines and not to dull the edges.
(I attached before and after photos, I'm pretty sure you'll see the difference)

Usually I wouldn't have done it, especially if it was even slightly less rough or a more valuable model (even a little bit).
I'm also interested in hearing your opinion on polishing watches overall (discussed many times but still).

Thank you for your time and stay safe.
Cheers!

Did you polish this yourself? Risky endeavor for sure but the results look fine to me from the pics

In general, I'm OK with it if it's done by a competent professional who knows when to quit. Fortunately, my current watchmaker is a competent professional. Edges remain sharp, flats gleam, and brushed areas look fabulous. He's also really good at bracelet refinishing.

Looks 100% better and in reality your light hand polishing pretty much was more of a solid cleaning to get rid of the haze and very minor scratches. The watch still looks natural to me 馃憤

Wow, thats a pretty little thing! It looks great from the photos. I think the no polish/character thing has gotten a little out of hand personally but all watch lovers are different, I guess.

Good job having control enough not to over do it. I think it looks fine.

Thanks! I was really cautious about it in perticular, so it's really nice to hear that.

I think you did a good job there - nice little watch.

Thank you both. I enjoy this watch very much. Leaning towards the more basic Omegas out there but really solid and classy IMO. The quality is there and it's much more interesting than an equivalent new watch I think (price-wise).

Looks good to me too. Sharp edges, but a deep lustre. Can't ask for much better.
