Wow! I bin doin it wrong for 60 years! What purpose do you suppose timing washers serve if not to bring the watch to time by adding weight? Think about it! As to meantime screws. There are usually two sets of meantime crews. One opposing pair at the ends of the balance arms, and one opposing pair toward the splits in the balance wheel rim. This latter pair is for fine calibration of the rate at varying temperatures. They shouldn’t be touched unless adjusting for rate at varying temperatures. But the pair of meantime screws at the ends of the balance arms don’t affect those adjustments! Thanks for your well intentioned suggestions to help improve my technique!
