Bought this a couple of weeks ago from a local jeweler.

The valve leaked, the tank leaked from the bottom seal and the seal on the holding rod leaked. The groove in which the bottom seal sits was half full of limescale (we live in a very hard water area) hence the lack of seal. So, I cleaned it up and bought a new set of seals. All was fine except for the valve which had a weak, rusted spring and part of the stem was corroded away. Nothing ventured; nothing gained and as I didn't have a piece of 6mm aluminium (the stem is 5.5mm at its widest) so I thought I'd make one out of brass.

The first three cuts done.

Parted off and the seat for the spring cut.

It won't hold 3 Bar of pressure but it holds 2.5 Bar nicely which is plenty good enough for what I want.. I guess I'll have to try re-grinding the seat in the valve body. All in I got it for less than 20% of the cost for a new one so I'm happy.

EDIT Forgot to say that I spent all of 拢3 on a nice new stainless steel spring for the valve.

Got this today from my (much much!) better half for my bday.馃榿

She knew I'd just bought my first Zenith, and thought I might like to have this to add to my growing collection of watch reference books.

She. Is. Awesome! 馃槑

Judging by the watches you already have, filling in those empty slots will sure be interesting. Happy birthday, by the way!

Is "cracking" a football / soccer reference or is it more of a general slang word? Someone told me that a soccer ball makes a loud "cracking" noise (like a whip) when a super hard shot hits certain parts of the net. I figure you guys would know...
Just general (probably lower middle class) British slang. You might hear an attractive young lady described as 'cracking bird' or a fine evening with friends and copious alcohol as a 'cracking night on the town'. From the best of British slang website:

Cracking - If something is cracking, it means it is the best. Usually said without pronouncing the last "G". If a girl is cracking it means she is stunning.

I have two. Now terrified that a bearded new jerseyite is going to sneak in to my house and swap them for loose change.

Less than 1g or about $25. Would have been melted already had the previous owner known what OM meant.

Picked up a small bundle today and amongst them a nice little surprise ( more about the others at a later time )
First Zenith, a small step but sure larger will follow. A 2572PC from if I am correct 1975/8 and the last of the Zenith movements ?
Any information or comments appreciated, and yes, some pics.
