Lucky you.....you must be thrilled there is someone else sharing your passion in your family (I know I will). Another bonus: vintage lady watch collecting seems a bigger bang for the buck hobby, since you will got many more watches with same amount of budget.

    Looks like it.

I'm telling you: if we were chicks, we could have all the ladies watches you could ever fit in your house for the price of (1) average modern men's VC or PP.

then, think about all the chicks you could get with all that extra money you'd have.

    oh, wait...

Problem is, now the younger ladies are wearing the vintage men's sizes. Here we go all over again.

Saving grace should be that only dearly beloved and one daughter are after my watches.

Today I bought something, but until I see it in the flesh, you'll just have to wait. As a clue, there are three watches I am adding to the collection this year and this is one of them. Two are Omega and one isn't. I am also allowing myself additional project and parts watches.

For the closer followers of the forum, it isn't the 105.003.

This beauty came in the other day. The Rado Captain Cook ref. 11683 is one of the true grails of the dive watch world, and in my experience is much, much more difficult to find than its next-door neighbor, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms AquaLung. The original crystal was scratched to hell with some very deep gouges. It took me about 2 hours on some jewelers grade sandpaper, but I managed to save her! I've got an original, signed crown incoming from the Netherlands and she'll be back to all original!

Edit: I managed to find an Italian language Ad for the Captain Cook. Turns out the magnifier crystal isn't original after all, and will be coming out when I have her serviced. That was a waste of 2 hours. Should have finished my research before doing all that work.

Edit #2: Just cracked the crystal at the base while removing it to take proper measurements for its replacement (I like to order parts in advance of sending to the watchmaker, gets them home more quickly, and guaranteed learning experience). No big deal... just drives home what a waste of time it was to get it looking nice.

One tiny, itsy bitsy bone to pick: It's a "correct" crown. Unless it's the one that came on the watch, it can't be "original".

Let me also say that's a trés cool vintage diver. ::love::

Good point! She'll be back to "correct" when I swap to a non-magnifier crystal and get the proper crown installed. There are also lovely Rado-signed seahorse bracelets around... but those may be rarer than the watch itself.

When uncased, it spins with a little help. Only one service mark with no date... but regardless, this girl will be feeling a lot better after a COA.

It's a rebadged AS 1700/01, so no worries about parts availability.

Was Omega screening for color blindness in 1972-1973?

You're building quite the library. Anyone up for a weekend of scanning? I'd be willing to contribute to defray part of the acquisition costs if a public service CD or website could be produced digitally.
