Miles/kilometres off 😀

You should have said "fathoms off" - it would have been a better hint.

I'm just back from the watch trading show in Munich (well, outside of Munich, in fact) where I was able to purchase three great watches. The oldest, a military watch. is not yet presentable while I will receive the newest, my Heuer grail watch, only in three weeks.

Today I can show you this fabulous Datzward (never heard of?) Chronograph 20 Atmos in almost perfect condition (I will try to remove the freckles):

20150705_000003.jpg

The details cry "Aquastar" and indeed this watch was made by Aquastar.

I love this big eye, the minute counter at the absolutely maximum size:

20150705_000040.jpg

The dial features three additional scales: tachymeter, decimal scale, and telemeter:

20150705_000027.jpg

The case measures 36,5 mm by 15 mm, the lug size is 18 mm.

20150705_000012.jpg

The movement, a Valjoux cal. 92, does not look bad either:

I can't remember when I've seen this movement in Red Gold finish, nor in this perfect condition.

Cheers,

Mick

The new one : a little CK3601, with t17 Inside, from around 1940. I think its size (20x27 without crown or lugs) makes it the smallest T17 I have. strap size 14mm..... but it was a men's watch.

This bad boy!

HAMILTON BRANDON CLD 1950 Here is an excellent prime example of a Hamilton Brandon model wristwatch. These watches were made from 1948-1951 and are 10KGF with 18K solid-gold numerals on a silver-color dial. This particular watch is a wonderful, very clean example with an original dial. Note from my pics how crisp and clear the dial is - especially the "cld" and the seconds sub-dial. Dial restorations do not replicate the "cld" as well as this original dial from 65 years ago. This Brandon has the original gold hands which are in perfect condition. There is no pitting anywhere on this watch.

Of particular note is that this watch was completely serviced (disassembled, cleaned, rebuilt and timed) by Rene Rondeau, the world's foremost expert on vintage Hamilton watches, who has recently retired. The last 2 pics were sent to me by Rene as he was working on this watch. He noted how nice the dial was (he also concluded it is original) and that the cal 980 17 jewel movement was also very clean. Indeed, this watch runs strong and accurate as a wind-up vintage wristwatch!

This is a fixed-lug version and I can find only a very few issues - it is almost perfect with virtually no wear! If you look closely at the pics, there is a fine hairline scratch on the dial (between the 1 and 2) that is very hard to see in-person. The back still has the original brushed gold finish and has only 1 faint small scratch that I can see. I cannot find any scratches on the crystal. You will be hard-pressed to find another Brandon CLD in this fine condition; especially one that has also been serviced by Rene Rondeau!

Not even remotely sexy but I needed a summer watch that can handle sand, sun, ocean, daughter ( caught the little devil with my newly purchased Speedy about to throw it through the living room) etc. and it doesn't come much better than this.

This has some old school charm too I think, instead of the larger G-Shock monstrosities. 15 years since I last wore a digital watch.

My 1 1/2 year old son once disappeared with my Rolex Datejust. We looked everywhere and couldn't find it. His jiberish answers to my questions were no help. Gave up after a while and was considering replacing it. Watch wasn't found until 6 months later. It was at the bottom of his large toy chest.

Fast forward to today. He is 25 and still takes my watches but, at least, they are not lost. Only permanently borrowed.

My daughter will be 1 1/2 this month and she has actually learnt what watch means, so she was able to find my SM300 again, when she hid it. I asked her where the watch was and she ran in to the living room and pointed to the bottom of the news paper basket and there it was 😀 Good girl 😁 I have given her an old Seiko to play with now.

A couple more Longines arrived this week. The one on the left is a caliber 9.47N in a 14kt white gold filled case from 1929. The one on the right is a caliber 23M in stainless steel from 1943. I am still trying to figure out who H. H. Goddard was. I have already ruled out Henry Herbert Goddard based on this list: http://kiwaniscluboftulsa.org/pastpresidents.html Interestingly, "Goddard" is spelled differently on the list.

Couldn't resist the dial, and Juvenia made some nice watches (I have a couple of others). I am anticipating that a new (or polished) crystal, and possible crown replacement will allow this one to shine…

I'm assuming you just picked this up for the bracelet.
If you want to move on the watch head then drop me a pm 😉
