Are you a “disruptive watch guy/gal”?

So...I’m getting one of my Church watches ready for Church tomorrow...my 23j Elgin B.W. Raymond 494 [pictured below to the right]. As I was getting it ready, I found myself snickering. Why was I snickering? I was snickering because I know that my Elgin 494 is loud...so loud that I’ve had many individuals comment on how loud it is...like at the AWCI watchmaking school, at the public library and at Church. Usually, at Church, I just get “the look”. Of course, at Church, I like to check my watch at least 37 times during the service. 😁

So are you a “disruptive watch guy/gal”?

Are you an intentional or unintentional “disruptive watch guy/gal”?

If you are a “disruptive watch guy/gal”, do you enjoy it?

A lot of little boys want to be a fireman, because of the sirens, and the noise they make. I work on tower clocks, with bells that range anywhere from 550 pounds, to half a ton. I had no aspirations to do this when I was a kid. But now that I have the chance, the more noise, the better. On two occasions between 2000 and 2008, I had an opportunity to stand within eight feet of the 13 tonne (metric) Big Ben bell in the Parliament Buildings in London, England, at noon! The paritioners in your Church have NO idea how much noice a timepiece can make!

Oh, I get it...not a fireman but a former policeman. 😁

Like Sergeant Otis on the old Richard Diamond radio series who is always panting at the opportunity to use the siren when Lieutenant Levenson (his superior) agrees to, let him use it.

My hand wound Portuguese is loud as heck. I can’t keep it on the nightstand next to the bed at night.

This could be considered visually disruptive in some circumstances 😀

The loudest ticking watch I own is my Speedmaster. No joke. Even the Hamiltons are quieter. The Bremont is so quiet, I almost can't hear it tick with my ear right up against the caseback. So none of my watches make noise that should bother the people around me.

But I check my watch all the time. I just like looking at it, even when I'm interested in what's actually going on. It's gotten me "the look" on numerous occasions. During things like church, work meetings, flight briefings, etc. I try to keep watch looks to a minimum, but it can be a problem.

There are times when I’ll find myself lost in the dial of a new arrival. So much so that I’ll forget I’m mid conversation with friends! 😗

The way it makes your lungs move... bass bins in night clubs have nothing on that bell.

I had a Tissot Squelette with a massive sapphire front and back; the one time I wore it to work it freaked my boss out because she swore she heard "a rapid ticking....it's making me palpitate!" 😜

Bought my ex a Swatch Sistem 51, buggers are quite loud too, even in a steel case!

She tried to say the noise was coming from the watch...I didn't believe her:

If there's any 'disruptive' coming from me, it won't be from my watch. 😁
Yeah, check with me after I've eaten a meal of red beans and rice...

Loud? I've got a Bulova M6 and it's silent as the grave. Does the lack of a dial make that much difference?

Couldn’t keep it in our bedroom. Haven’t had it fixed because it’s a conversion and not the real deal. My wife likes it though so might get it done someday.
