The greatest military power in the history of civilization, the agreement of ally nations to price their commodities in it, and the ability to pay your taxes in it.

What he said and too many more to list.

Walrus, the sky is blue…others say nein, Walrus, 2+2=4, others say nyet. Walrus, the grass is green, others say née.

Sorry what did I do now I’m not into the arguing thing if people don’t like particular things I’m fine with that and let them be, we all have likes and dislikes

#edit just want to clarify I have no problem with @The Father i always enjoy his banter and have had occasional side conversations. Smart guy to.
I guess I’ll just clarify my thoughts a bit on Bitcoin. Yes many examples of major companies that accept Bitcoin and numerous other cryptos. I sell a lot of stuff locally and always check “crypto accepted” as I want to do my little part in its adoption. I think I’ve been in 7 years now although I’d need to look to determine the exact date. I like it, I think it has some cool possibilities and functions I have a friend who is working with a group to make a coin which is actually pretty amazing to see what goes into it. But I can’t say it’s the future or will have large adoption in the future. I can’t predict it’s price from here. But like with stock you get into it more for your belief it will succeed in the future than how it’s doing at this very moment, that’s why stocks have P/E above current book, well one reason anyway. I think my two biggest holdings are apple and tesla, it is a possibility these companies won’t exist in ten years. I’m not trying to compare crypto with stock. Just trying to pick some examples I think make sense.
Sure crypto could be zero in ten years or tomorrow I don’t know. There are a lot of them that are pure speculation, money-grabs and I wouldn’t mind seeing them gone. I do think some have a strong possibility of doing some cool things in the future. I go and read Warren Buffet and Charlie Mungers reason for not liking crypto and Warren makes some good points. Like he sits down and lays out his thoughts on it and he does have valid critiques. In the end though there is really no need to argue or insult people about it. That also leads to threads getting closed. I liked that Vax thread and was disappointed when it got shut down.

The iPhone was going to fail, Tesla was going to fail, the Beatles got rejected numerous times. I think it’s too early to make a call on the future of crypto. A lot can happen that can derail it a lot could happen that may help it thrive. I like it. I didn’t expect 200,000% growth plus. Furthest thing from my mind back then. Unfortunately I’m not a crypto whale and it didn’t make me extremely wealthy, I do know a couple people who did and back then I was the one saying it was dumb and going to zero, ha ha. They were mining back when Bitcoin was under a buck and there I was telling them they were wasting their time. But they were saying what I’m saying now, the futures gonna tell us. Frig I wish I listened to them.
I don’t know I guess that’s it look at the price change on some crypto just since this thread was started. Crazy stuff. I always find it is of no benefit to have contempt prior to thorough investigation but I always learn that shit the hard way myself.

Recently saw Clayton do an interview on CNBC about crypto. Not talking specific coins just how it may be of benefit as we head into the future. Certainly didn’t shy away from touching on numerous problems like the ICO craze a while back. Also didn’t predict it would change the world but spoke pretty well on its potential on improving the US monetary system. I recalled reading an oped he wrote in WSJ a while back not sure if it’s behind a paywall. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wsj.com/amp/articles/crypto-needs-regulation-but-it-doesnt-need-new-rules-11623007528

o the crypto haters China banned Bitcoin again so it sent a nice crypto crash again. This is like every three months we get the China fud so maybe it’ll get wiped out. I’m still interested to see how it plays out in the years to come. Hopefully I’ll be around to see it if not I probably won’t care that much.

Anyone else get hit with this? I got into the defi a while back as I found it interesting. Again my holdings won’t get me lambos or anything just an interest I have and I’m curious to see where it goes in the future. Oddly two times now I have been sent too much money. I just send it back. I’m looking for projects to do well and I figure mistakes happen, it’s new tech I don’t want Ill gotten gains. No one had to ask me it wasn’t mine, it was a glaring error, I returned the money. Well it happened again with this one compound. I looked at my accounts and was wondering what the hec took a massive jump this time. Then I noticed they mistakenly sent too much funds. I was ready to send it back then I noticed they are threatening to doxx me and report me to the IRS if I don’t send back 90%. I pay all my taxes on gains on these things it’s like they are implying I’m planning on avoiding the IRS. Also I’m on a KYC exchange so I doxx myself. Had they not done that they already would have had the funds back like the two previous times I can document I sent other projects funds back without even being asked. Not 90% but 100% I returned. In this case, I may just cash out and sent the IRS a nice capital gains check which they can spend wisely on bombs or help pay off the debt or whatever they are doing with my tax money today. I think these guys should have done a little research and they would have found over 90% of us return this money without even being asked. Definitely a project I no longer wish to be a part of.

Pretty sure it jumped because I sold BTC for the first time ever. The good news is that what I sold paid for my entire stack, and my average cost went from $14K to zero.

Good for you never regret taking profit. How did it feel pressing sell? I’ve sold some stuff but no Btc or eth sold for I think six years. I consider it every bullrun as one never knows where this will end up. Could be 0 could be 100k plus. Talk about mind games. I did get out my initial plus back then but then I decided to start buying all the dips, and the dips within the dips of the dips and the dips after those.

I know visa and MasterCard are building on blockchain for stablecoins (on ethereum) for settlement and wallets I don’t know if that explains this most recent pump. Jerome said specifically he his not out to ban crypto but add money market type regulation to some defi. Or is this the China Fud ending. I try not to dig too deep into these things as too many forces at play. I think Visa just but 65 billion in development, nyse continues to work on blockchain but who knows I’ve been trying to figure these moves for years also the pending etf’s that are now, so it’s reported, a sure thing is going to have a impact. Tomorrow maybe more China FUD and we will be right back to where we were Thursday

I can’t believe this thing is up over 50k today.
It’s funny to see banks that used to ban me from buying it now offering custodial wallets asking for my business. Well not me specifically just Bitcoin holders. Or the banks and companies that quoted Buffets “rat poison” assessment now trampling over each other to get in on it. I’m not declaring it’s the future I have no clue it’s just been funny to watch the financial players make such drastic changes in their language and use of some of these products

I started this thread 12 months ago, everyone following the thread watched Bitcoin going from 14k to 55k.

Just a friendly reminder, we are still early

It is really anyone's guess where it goes from here?
All the way up to $100k, or back down to $5k....... who knows ?

Ha ha I got my wife some shiba as a joke so I could say I sent her “millions of something”. Well jokes on me she won’t give it back

I bought a few million ($50 worth!) for fun a while back. It's the best performing thing in my portfolio lately, lol. I know it's a really bad project, but I think people are going to keep fomoing in because it looks so cheap. I'm gonna ride it to 1000x or 0.

I'm still a pretty conservative crypto investor (about 5% of NW), but there has been so much positive news lately, I'm starting to get really excited for Q4 and Q1 2022. Maybe I'll actually buy a watch with the proceeds so that this thread can have some watch pics.

We are entering the 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' stage of the game. Visa is building on it, Amazon Web Services is running Blockchain for big companies, and even some of Soros' funds announced they hold crypto.
