…and how will they reap billions in cap gains taxes if nobody can cash out?
Well they can’t. That’s my point.
“that’s pretty much it” = they have no power here

Shoot not sure if this link will work as it’s apple news but tesla has been similar to Bitcoin in a way with shouts of its valuation, failure and bankruptcy. Tesla was dead in the water going nowhere not that long ago. Now seeing it move into power supply for a state is quite interesting. Who nows how this will play out but if it is successful and scales it could be quite amazing. Some of Elon’s ideas for how residential power will be made in the future are pretty amazing, I’m just not smart enough to judge how practical they are.

Ya it’s interesting Microsoft has accepted Bitcoin for so long and yet “no one accepts it” I perfectly understand people who have doubts about cryptos use in the future. I have doubts myself. What I don’t get is people who are so sure. Sometimes it reminds me of Steve Ballmer predicting the iPhone failing. I do not know the future. I’m confident enough in its possibilities to be in it.
I read an article how it’s being used as a peer to peer currency surprisingly even I’d Afghanistan and many African nations where the governments are unstable or the monetary system actually makes ours look good. Vietnam was quite high up on that list.
I have no doubt numerous of these projects will fail and are a money grab but humans do that stuff with anything that can bring them profit. I just can’t call it yet but the blockchain is being refined and adopted as well the NYSE is working with it. Just a cool development in history I’m really looking forward to see it progress and if it fails and goes to 0 accept that as part of the risk.

Yep. Can't spend it anywhere. It'll never work.

We actually had our first instance of someone getting scammed on a sale paying by cryptocurrency last month, I'm actually kind of surprised it took this many years and hopefully we don't have to put a warning thread up or anything as I'd imagine most people experienced enough to be willing to do a watch deal with it know that you're not getting your ETH back when the watch doesn't arrive and not to trust strangers with no history in that way.

Darn that’s sad to hear I actually tried to buy a watch here with ETH the fees at the time stopped me in my tracks but since then i noticed fees are getting better with some of the L2 options plus I found I had made an error and could have paid less in fees. Regardless it’s like a wire transfer if the person you are dealing with is a scammer you aren’t getting it back, although there are some exceptions to that rule.

Sorry to hear that. Would you mind laying out what exactly happened?

Just a scammer carpet bombing WTB listers with messages saying he has the rare parts they want, a couple of people reported it, one bloke paid for his parts before we were tipped off. If you're ever suspicious report the PM to us and we can check it out for you, the community is very good about that and we often get many reports but the faster the better.

Guess I should have been more explicit. Can we say explicit here?

Anyway, Bitcoin and the rest of the crypto currency deals are all kind of mythical.

Are hereby announce the OmegaCoin! Elon Musk may purchase 100 OmegaCoins at $10,000 a coin.
Start the mad rush to buy this new mythical crypto coin.

I am taking orders now! At a discount! Send a $100 per OmegaCoin and I'll send you as many as you want.
AMC Theatres may be taking them by the end of the year. You can a movie and some popcorn.

Crypto is load of shit. Backed by nothing. That is my view.

That’s disappointing. Some people prey on crypto specifically though the majority of scams are done in cash and credit as it’s much more common. Regardless I got involved in this one crypto called Solana a while back and it became quit “hot” for lack of a better word. It’s a token you can stake and make interest on. I usually do that as you can get 5-7% apy legit. Anyway in order to stake it there are several moves you must take which really aren’t that complicated but damn I got emails from so many people telling me they got scammed out of all there SOL as they asked the wrong person for advice on how to do it. It was very upsetting to hear as there were a number of younger people who had done very well and it meant a lot to them. Like help them pay off school loan well etc. or get a new car.
When I attempted to buy a watch here with crypto the transaction was with an established member who was very decent. I had no concern at all a scam was taking place. But it certainly is true one must be wary I really feel bad when I hear about stolen watches, eBay scams, crypto scams whatever it may be I just really dislike to see be get ripped off in any way shape or form. Sad

And the USD(and most fiat currencies) is backed by?

Sorry to hear. Is a direct wire to a scammer reversible?

No, you wire it’s gone excepting in some very rare circumstances.

The greatest military power in the history of civilization, the agreement of ally nations to price their commodities in it, and the ability to pay your taxes in it.
