Just recently I’ve been noticing Longines watches and wondering how they stack up against other luxury watches. The level I am looking at is Omega and Rolex not A.P. or P.P. I am just looking for information so I can hopefully make an informed decision if and when I see one I like.
For the members who are going to tell me to do my research, I am starting by posting this thread.

Of course they are desirable. They are an entry level luxury brand now but they have one hell of a heritage. It’s buy what you like.

@Syrte would be the best to respond but I have always admired the artistic, understated elegance of Longines.
They don't power market like Omega (Swatch) or especially Rolex but they have the history , the quality and an exceptional customer orientation that I have always admired.
While I am an Omega enthusiast, my tastes upscale lean to JLC and downscale(?) to Longines.

Are we talking modern or vintage? Vintage Longines can be absolutely top-notch. Modern is meh IMO.

    Ok, then I think they're meh. ;)
    (I LOVE vintage Longines.)

Edit: To be slightly more serious, I have the sense that Swatch really doesn't know what they want to do with Longines within their hierarchy of brands. It just seems to be coasting along with fairly generic pieces, and the only watches that are interesting are the heritage models. It's a bit unfair for a brand with such an amazing history.

Gotta say, I spent a while in an AD last year and came away with the same reaction.

Has anyone really made a watch after 1970?

Try a Bigeye...modern Longines in all its vintage glory ;)

I'm a sports timing consultant for the Swatch Group's sports marketing division, SwissTiming (official timekeeper for most Olympics etc, represented publicly/on TV as Omega, Longines, TIssot, and Swatch brands)...when I first went to work for them in 2003 they were housed in the Longines factory in St. Imier...when you arrive by train in that beautiful part of the Jura mountains and first lay eyes on that legendary factory with all the history it represents, you get goosebumps.

Whilst we’re on this thread, I’ve been thinking, vaguely, about getting a Longines Heritage Conquest 35mm. I think it looks nice and it’s the right size for me. Has anyone got one or heard anything about these?

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you get great deals on watches and sporting event tickets. Can I live vicariously through you.

I had / have my eye on the black dial version of this.

Also, saw this today. Is it too much of a hulk rip off? I still kind of dig it...

Had a few wonderful vintage Longines in the past and as @Alphasports , totally into the BigEye. A classic and extremely well executed chronograph at a price point that is hard to beat.

I've had the black dial. A beautiful watch indeed. My daughter borrowed it to wear in court as she is a lawyer, but didn't return it. She got many compliments and she loved it so much.
It looks perfect on my 7" wrist. Plexiglass enhances it's beauty in looks and in touch that really makes it special.

Love love love the Legend Diver. It’s the best looking Longines. Got one for my Dad
    (Photo from Reddit)
The glass box crystal is very nice. Rotating bezel INSIDE glass box is genius.
It’s my favorite tool watch for its price.
F it. It’s my favorite watch under $5k.
This puppy punch way way way above its class. a real winner for Longines.
The rest of Longines offerings are “meh”

    Really like that diver.

I was also curious about the brand; saw it recently at a luxury watch AD. They had a dedicated display for Longines. Some very attractive pieces.

Have you looked at the Oris Aquis Date? I love green watches and I think its a great alternative to a Hulk.

I’ve always been fascinated by the number of complications of this watch for just a tad over 3k after normal discount. I mean where else do you get a 44’ case with a 48 hour power reserve with the following:
Day 12 o'clock, Date on the right hand side of the dial, Small second at 6 o'clock, and 24 hours second time zone on the left hand side of the dial. Moonphase display at 6 o'clock and day/night indicator at 12.

How thick is the manual for that one? Or do you need to go on a course to learn how to set it?
