Aqua Terra Day-Date Opinions

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase my first dress watch (being a proud Speedmaster and a Seamaster owner!) Initially I had my eyes set on the AT Day-Date, but it has been discontinued and there have been generally very few reviews of that watch; it seems to have gone largely unnoticed and ignored.

I am currently looking at the much more mainstream AT Steel on Blue Dial watch, and while I would love pulling the trigger on it, I know that deep down, if Omega were to release this with a date complication again, I would regret my purchase and think about selling it to fund the day-date variant.

What's your experience with Omega Day-Dates? Have you had one in the past/do you still own one? Is it reliable? Is there a reason why it hasn't caught on with the public?

Thank you for your time and answers.

I had to look up that AT day-date, hadn't ever seen one or read about it,

I like it, it's a classic implementation and very nicely done. I own your second choice, and I absolutely love it. IMO, one of Omega's most beautiful cases and dials, and is incredibly dynamic whilst remaining very legible.

OTOH, if you want the day-date, then the day-date is what you want. I suspect it wasn't a bg seller, so Omega may not put out another versions and now may be the time to pounce.

It's a pretty big watch. Both in terms of diameter and thickness. If you are fine with the size I would go for it. I don't envision Omega bringing back a Day Date model any time soon.

I decided to proceed with the more mainstream option of the modern, standard Aqua Terra and forego the Day-Date (which I couldn't find new in the local market anyway anymore). I am between the blue and green dial but I'll most probably go with the blue.

The thing here is, Omega has released three steel versions of the blue AT, each with minor differences in the colour of the seconds hand, or the colour on the seconds numbers on the dial itself; that much is certain. What I'm not sure of, is whether the shade of blue on the dial itself is also different between models 220.10.41.21.03.001, 220.10.41.21.03.002 and 220.10.41.21.03.004 respectively. Do you think it's just the way they were photographed or are they actually different blue dials as depicted?

For sure the middle one is a greyish blue (my brother has that one on the rubber strap) compared to the navy of the first and last pic, the first and last one seem to only differ with the first on having aqua blue accents.

I agree with this. The middle watch is definitely intended to be a different color of blue with more gray added.

You might also take a look at the earlier two generations of the AT with the vertical teak pattern. That blue is more intense than the current version.

Same conundrum as you, OP. +1 hoping to see a return of the AT Day-Date. If they can slim it down and make a case in the 38-40mm neighborhood with the design cues of the new AT, it could become my daily.

Especially after the last few months, OMEGA has an answer to almost every model Rolex makes — except the Day-Date. I’m sure many others have no interest in shelling out 30k+ on a Rolex Day-Date, but would love a classic design in steel… please OMEGA!

The first & third have same dark blue dial, different colour of markings (light blue Seamaster on first, white on last).

The middle one is completely different, lighter blue with grey hues. Little bit similar to "small seconds" version below, just darker.

Please note, that the dark blue ones (1st & third) need pretty good light to actually see the colour, otherwise in a lot of light conditions (especially shaded or artificial) they may seem blackish/dark greyish.

Here below some photos of both dials in different lights. First 5 - the dark blue, last 3 - the middle one.

I own this watch for 7 years.
Ultra-reliable and accurate, now without any service it’s-1 sec/day.
But it’s not a dress option, I’d call it sport elegant.
