38 looks best, and the current trend is toward smaller watches. Just my opinion though. They both look good.

I think I'd also pick the 38 (as I did choose it over the 41) because of the 8800 movement and slightly lower profile.

7 inch wrist size, favored size is 40 to 42mm, so 41mm was perfect for me....
Same for me. Triied on the new AT 41mm a while back and was definitely my size. A 38mm would be very retro as it would be small side for me.

Congrats on your acquisition. I'll be picking one up shortly. I already saw it in the metal and was taken aback over how glaringly shiny it is. Granted, the bracelet was still wrapped in plastic and the lighting in the OB certainly skews the visual appearance. I expect I will have a different impression when I see it in natural light and in a normal indoor setting.

For me, it was in between this and the GS spring drive, which seems equally as shiny and either of these is destined to faithfully carry out their duties as a scratch magnet.

I find it interesting that the lug-to-lug on this reference is 0.1mm longer and the thickness is 0.2mm more than the teak dial variant, given that they seem identical, other than the dial, polishing and bracelet.

OP and those of you who are already wearing it: can you share your impressions on how bad the shine factor is? As I mentioned, I don't have it yet but I'm already considering having the case brushed like its predecessor.

I joined the club today. I'm very happy I decided to get this one. The turquoise is beautiful but couldn't see it as a piece for daily wear. The black dial is as close to perfection as I can hope. The biggest exception is the comfort setting mechanism but I don't anticipate needing to use it so I don't care one way or another.

For those of you who are wondering, the flat link bracelet from the 8900 with the horizontal teak pattern DOES fit this version. However, the spring bars are a different size. The spring bars from the new bracelet have to be used. Also, the end links on the new bracelet don't have tabs.

The AT’s are great watches. Sophisticated styling, excellent movements and the bracelet is awesome. I have the 38.5mm Skyfall model with the vertical blue “teak” dial that Daniel Craig wire in the Bond film and it’s one of my favorites.

This is the one I want, but in 41.5mm. I love the date window detail, and the blue dial is so pretty.

That is my other Aqua Terra, which is my grail piece. It is currently out getting serviced.

When I dropped it off, the SA that received it gasped and said it is also her favorite because the blue dial is like no other.

They are getting harder to find. Here's mine - I have it on the Spectre bracelet:

I take back my previous statement regarding the bracelets - the old bracelet DOES fit but not with the old spring bars. The spring bars from the new bracelet must be used (they are a different size). Also the end links from the new bracelet don't have tabs.

I corrected my prior post.

New bracelet still looks way better than the old bracelet. It's a shame that the new bracelet doesn't fit the the other 8900 AT's.

For me, it's a toss-up. I like the looks of the new bracelet more, but prefer the less dramatic taper of the older one. I'll play around with them for a while to see which I settle for.

Congratulations, looks fantastic, one of my favorite references and yes the dial is far more versatile as a daily wearer vs the turquoise

Thanks. I put it on a strap this weekend and it turns it into a completely different watch

There's something so cool about lacquer dials!
