Two months to the day after I put my application in at the OB in Chicago, just got word that I am approved to buy the CK2998 LE! Don't know the ETA on timing (and frankly, the later the better, as in the meantime I've signed a contract to buy a new house, and I'm not exactly feeling flush at the moment...) or why it took Omega so long to approve, but I'm still pretty excited, despite never having seen it in person (though I keep going back and looking at BruceTheManLee's wrist shots to tide me over).

Still think it's ridiculous that I had to be "approved" to pay Omega thousands of dollars, but yay!

Based on my OB's info (US only), all CK's were spoken for but Omega kept a waiting list in case people that made deposit dropped out. It appears a handful of people have dropped out, so that's how you got in. I almost dropped out as I was not impressed the first time seeing it in person. But now, I am glad I kept it. the watch is beautiful and definitely growing on me.

Congrats, better late than never. I put my deposit in April and still waiting.

Looking at everyone else's pictures as well to keep the sanity of waiting.

You need to be approved to buy it? Is that just a fancy word for a waiting list due to stock limitations?

They're sometimes calling your mom to check what kind of specimen is going to wear their LE

Also a quick look into Big Data to evaluate how high the chances to see tons of wristies are :p

Really glad that I'm able to help out !! LOL ! You won't regret getting one - it's really sweet watch. It has a lot going for it:
    -its a Speedy
-great size (unlike some Omega's larger watches 44mm+)
    -manual wind
    -vintage look and feel
    -BLUE panda dial!

The size is actually my one concern - my wrist is almost 8", and all of my non-dress watches are 42-44mm. Does this wear larger than its size would otherwise indicate?

It's 40 because there's no crown guards like on the speedy pro. Otherwise it would be 42mm too.
I guess it would fit well and nice your wrist.

My take: it wears small. I think the concentric circles makes it look smaller. wears smaller than my 39mm Globemaster and definitely smaller than 40mm six digit Sub's. with that said, I think 40mm size is always classy and would be appropriate. although this is a chrono, wear more like dress watches. pairs better dressed up than down.

I believe US price was $8,400. I always seize any opportunity to comment on this watch as I believe people are misled by all the hype around it. I feel that the use of the CK2998 'name' is inappropriate, but my main criticism is the design of the dial - the placing of the sub-dials linked to the colour contrast makes for a very unbalanced layout and an aesthetic failure. I reckon that the clamour results from it being a limited edition and positive write-ups prior to it being seen 'in the flesh'. There clearly are people wanting one just to sell on for a quick profit.

If you leave all omega-forum-esque criticism and bias aside, whether based on comparing it against the original CK2998, or of market behaviours, and just look at it as a pretty, LE watch, you have to reckon it ticks many boxes.

I've tried it on a few months ago already (here) and, as most of us who did commented likewise, it looks so much better in the flesh than on pictures.

I can understand the grudge (to some extent!) though :)
