Since my wife bought me my first watch and my first Omega, I've been reading more and more about the various details of the Speedmaster and its history, etc. So last night we sat down and re-watched the movie Apollo 13 while wearing my Speedmaster! Felt like a 10 year old boy again... experiencing the joy of being a nation that put a man onto the moon, the triumphs and fears of "the successful failure", and using the chronometer during their 14 second burn! And I geeked out (much to my wife's chagrin) when they had signal dropout as they went into.... ... the dark side of the moon.... Come join me! Go watch Apollo 13 and proudly wear your Speedmaster Moonwatch!!
Well, you are also forgetting to include:- From the Earth To The Mon series - always cheers me up First Orbit ( break out the Sturmanski for that one) - relaxing and exhilirating background stuff Moonshot - a bit twee, but fun and informative and one of my favourites, in their own words In The Shadow Of The Moon - with the master of deadpan delivery
Nah, see, I disagree on this one. Its not ad enough to be chuckle-worthy. It just sets my teeth on edge. If where're going in the direction of fiction more than b"based upon a true story", then there's Gravity, Interstellar and The Martian to applaud as good science with good storytelling and only the occasional leap of faith here and there. A little more out there is sam rockwell in Moon
Gravity should more properly been called "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events....IN SPACE!!!!!!"
Seconded. I watched Last man on the moon the other week and loved it. I think there was a couple of different Speedys that Eugene Curran wears during the programme.
I always liked Tina Fey's Golden Globe Awards comment regarding the movie Gravity. " 'Gravity' is nominated for best film, It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age."
Awesome. That will be the one. I will have to go one day and have a look if the £ is worth anything in the future. He also wore a couple of different modern ones while they were talking about his life. I think one of them was a gold Speedy if i remember.
Here's a good piece on Gold Speedmasters made for the Apollo astronauts: http://www.fratellowatches.com/gold-omega-speedmaster-professional-apollo-xi-watches/
Cernan wears two watches in Last Man on the Moon. X-33 Generation 2 Speedmaster Broad-Arrow Two-Tone rose gold and stainless steel
It's one of my favorite movies, and I get unnecessarily bent out of shape when I see the statue of Jack Swigert at the Denver airport and I see that the sculptor decided that his Speedy should have been gold rather than stainless...
