Sky News have just issued a tweet saying that an Apollo 11 crew watch is coming up for auction! This cannot be true surely. The information is sketchy and it does not mention the auction house. They do say it was presented to the Shah of Iran and later given to a helicopter pilot!!!
Isn’t it likely that they actually presented him with the same model Speedmaster that was used on Apollo 11. The whereabouts of two are known and it’s hardly likely to be Buzz’s missing watch, or did they take a stash of watches with them to hand out later.

So am I reading those articles right?
Just a "plain ol" speedy that was gifted by the Apollo 11 crew?
    NOT actually flown in space?
Still cool. But not as cool as it could be hah.

Yeah the Sky-News article title stating "Well Traveled" is slightly misleading.
Well traveled to the middle east is not the same as well traveled to space lol.

It certainly passed through the hands of some very interesting people along the way.
Could it have been an unused spare watch bought by NASA? Any info on lot numbers and purchase orders for these watches?

Having read the auction house description , it looks like watch was sent directly to Iran from Omega ( according to Certificate from Archive ) then handed to the Princess by Apollo 11 crew. Maybe one of their entourage just went to the local AD and picked one off the shelf.

Surprised the article went into such detail as to identify it as a 145.022-68

A great story nonetheless, even if it didn't travel in space — and interesting to see how much it fetches at auction.

Kind of poor form to regift the watch though, no?

They're auctioning off an Ultraman for the same price (15,000 GBP). Neither look very appealing. Both hardly have any lume left.

Gift from Apollo 11 crew, not a flown watch pretty obvious in the description, as well as the reserve price...
