I thought about it once, then found a good reason to keep each of the watches in my collection.

I sold a JLC KW818 once. Because I was only after the Box.
Made $200(it was WG and no one noticed) on the watch(sold it too cheap)
and got the box free.

+1 I think I fall also into this category...😉but the time has come to part with some out of the "multiple watch" category to fill up the totally rotten bank account... sigh... I hate to let go...

Oooo yeah - another member to keep an eye on for sales forum posts.

I am certain that there are many watches in my collection that I should let go of - not enough wrist time, better examples out there, grails to buy etc - but when I begin the preparation for sale I seem to always rediscover the original reason for purchasing in the first place... 😉

It's good to see I am definitely not alone!!! 😁

Gold and stainless daily's,
gold and stainless dressers,
tools,
half a dozen grails,
a dozen or so historicals,
I feel about 25 is a decent collection give or take a hundred.(Up from the three from my last estimate a year or so ago).
If you have bought some in the aforementioned categories but not completed all, how can you be a seller?
Are you upgrading some categories before accumulating others? Is there a focus problem?
I am not judging, just inquiring.

You sellers, did you buy too soon/too inferior or are you securing a position and improving as a chessmaster would?
Repeat, I am not being judgmental, just analytical. I am at 12 looking to move to 25 or so (250?).

If you know how many you have, you don't have enough.
I met a guy once, he estimated he had 2000.
When I met him, I was the intermediary for a watch dealer that
asked a favor of me because the guy would only do a face deal.
The guy was selling his 1st watch, a Tudor home plate he'd owned
for 20 years to help fund some education expenses for his daughter.
Sooo......

I know a guy in Thai who had more than 3000 watches, mostly premium ones.

Don't bother putting arbitrary limits on your hobby. Financial limits…… well, that's another story. 😉

Directions change. It's okay to be fickle as long as you aren't cheap.

Upgrading for condition or precious metal is always a consideration. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the 18k pink gold date-at-12 Flagship I used to own, but when a near mint one came along I was compelled to go semi-Ashley to acquire it. There was no maybe. The brain never thought about any other option.

As a matter of fact, I think you'll find the serious veterans would rather replace an existing decent example with a pristine specimen than fill a vacant slot in the box. Condition, condition, condition - remember? If I look at a watch and don't think "Man, the guys are gonna be green with envy when they see this!" then it's probably not one that will stay in my collection long if I buy it at all.

Is there a focus problem?

See my screen name. 😜

Mostly I sell because a watch no longer holds my interest. There might be nothing wrong with it at all. Gymnasts and IHOP employees are the only people that flip more than me.

It's a very selfish thing not to sell. Therefore I sell alot. I always try to be a good human being, and to the place we're all going to in the end, you cannot take with you a bunch of watches anyway. 😀

So I urge all of you hoarders out there to hit the Sales section. It's fun too, and you'll meet people from all over the globe 👍

Never sold one, but I have only a few of them. Maybe when the drawer is full...

Now that I have my two toned Omega Professional Pre-Bond my 4 year old ORIENT Multi Pointer Day CET05001 doesn't get much wrist time and I have considered putting it on the Bay. But every time I decide "Yeah, just let it go" I wear it one last time and change my mind. It's a lovely piece, but I really should sell it and put the money towards my soon to be built Omega SM300.

Opinions? I'm definitely Keeping my Orient Mako XL (it's my daily beater and yes, it IS beat to hell) and I wouldn't dream of letting go of my Seiko "A View To A Kill" James Bond watch (6093-8080A two-tone worn by Roger Moore). So with the two Omegas that's really a nicely rounded collection (for a man of my means).
