I learn something new everyday, never heard of ultem before, it looks great and Wikipedia says it has good mechanical properties. Nice tool.
It is a very interesting material, although I have to admit that none of its practical applications really justify the cost for its use for a knife handle. Then again, I suppose if I ever have to perform emergency surgery, it will be able to survive sterilization in an autoclave...

You are right, learned something new ( and useful) today but can't they change the colour? Looks like a worn out UV damaged high urea content plastic uhhhhhhgg.
Good thing is though things that look like that tend to be very cheap at thrift shops lol so I will keep my eyes open.

That 80's washed out aesthetic is exactly what I like about it! Ultem actually carries a bit of a premium over other polymers generally used for tool handles, despite its relative brittleness, so I doubt it will show up at thrift stores any time soon. For whatever reason it was a huge fad in the EDC world a couple years ago, so you might be in luck finding some used online as collectors move on to the latest trend.

Not exactly a knife, but still cool.

The Sharpie on the left is an actual Sharpie, the item on the right is a replica of a Sharpie with a very sharp, non-metallic, point that is ideal for non-permissive environments.

Work takes me to a little city in England a few times a month. I won't tell you which one but it's Cathedral has the highest spire in England! Anyway there is a small antiques centre there. The type where dealers rent a cabinet to sell their wares. Theres a fair bit of tat there but plenty of good too and today I spotted this dead stock french multi blade. The quality good, springs are strong and it feels substantial. Im in the process of trying to find out more about it.

Only brittle on folders 😜

Here is a handle I put on a Magnacut Spyderco Mule a while back.

Well, those four years went fast. A little too fast.

This arrived today. Nicely packaged.
Beautiful looking. Sharp out of the box. Not crazy about the glossy blade as it immediately picked up my thumb print but it's otherwise stunning.

I was prepared for a small knife but it doesn't feel small. Definitely light.

Bog wood handel has a nice feel. There's a natural but unfortunate blond line down the middle, which at first looked like a scratch. That's somewhat expected with natural products. But after remodeling about 8 houses and choosing thousands of feet of flooring and siding based on the grain patterns, it's a bit of a letdown. Something I'll have to get over. Besides, it'll probably end up being my wife's. At least the line will be hidden against my palm.

Wierd to finally have it in hand.

Congratulations 🥂

Actually a knife that will grow on you…longer I have had mine the more I like it…
Carry it for a bit and then get back to us…$5 you will change your review.

TIP : stick it in the leather sheath and leave it in the back pocket of a pair of jeans and sit or when driving. The sheath will mould to the knife nicely…😉
