At a country show some time ago I stopped at the stall of a blacksmith. This little (17.5cm) knife caught my eye. He said he just hammered them out for fun. I thought it was a superb piece of artisan work - no frills, but a lot of fine work went into making the rams head at the pommel end. For $25 would you pass it by?

At last the whole viking knife rig is finished. Knife is a copy of a reindeer hunters from ca 500 AD found on a glacier in Norway, sheath is inspired by findings in Birka Sweden . Belt buckle is inspired by a find in eastern Europe. The rest is somewhat inspired by finds and fantasy.
The blade is made from a farriers rasp, handle from curly birch. The hardware is copper with steel rings and belt loop.

Still buy knives for research….😗

Bought 2 of these cheap as the knifemaker forgot to drill handle pin holes to attach handles… makes a nice set of steak knives if I don’t want to waste a few drill bits trying to drill hardened tool steel.

My first love (and collection) was from pocket knives! Here are a few of my favorites from my collection. Nowadays, my knife collecting has slowed. I'm quite happy with my collection as it stands. The watch bug has bitten me HARD and I prefer saving (and subsequently spending) resources on timepieces as opposed to pocket knives. fbe816932be69583afef9b5069ceaf89.jpg b1c4f61cae0b1aac8e80531d78ac7c05.jpg 0db83823e9eecc52845202da8e54e136.jpg 98d28d72a27cd3c2bf637d46797ed5c7.jpg 24510edc6a46808b11e6d2f4460818e6.jpg

Something a bit different. These are desk knives/letter openers in sterling silver, made by well known designer and silversmith Stuart Devlin in the 1970s, and hallmarked for London. The grips are hand hammered and gilded. The bottom knife is double bladed - very handsome.

Very interesting - a quality letter opener is essential for every man's desk! I shall look into these.. good to see they're London made too.

I have an oddball collection but a few of my favourites are the large fixed-blade Bark Rivers - proud to own these babies: (still want the Bravo III if they ever make them again)

Grasso Bollo II, Survivor, Grizzly.

Make these with G10

@JimInOz owned one below

Couple I have made.

My own one…(Tiffany Blue)

Can make in any colour or Timber or even a mix.

How much metal work do you do on these? Do you make the blades, or do they come from somewhere else? I like the shape.

First build of the year, a 50 anniversary gift for a friend of mine. Stainless steel blade and handle of Jamaican national tree blue mahone. I have been sitting outside today, whitteling in the sun.
Some hours later.

The only two I have are this 2.5” Boker and 3” Kershaw. I am partial to apples and prefer to slice rather than risk my crowns.

The Kershaw is a great EDC especially now that I make my own “Biltong” (South African version of Jerky) at home.

Another one ….. This is kind of a memento to happy times in Northern Scandinavia where as an experienced hiker you could not be with out an Martitiini knife, ready to skin reindeers 🙄😗😲😉

While you wait sharpening 😀

I thought this Tanto was just quirky. Didn't realize how useful it would be. Been a great help prepping the exterior of the house for painting.

I found this among some of my grandads things. Family stories say he had this when he immigrated to America around 1925.

I love the blacksmith designs ... Picked one up at the local crystal shop and the pointed dagger right from the demo stand at the renn faire at Burlington county the other weekend.

Probably Sheffield made. Thousands have been produced for many decades.

My elder brother had one when in the Scouts, 70 years ago. My other brother ended up with it, and it was abused dreadfully. He asked if I could tidy it up for him.
