Anybody owns both Moonwatch variants (Hesalite & Sapphire)

I wear my 3861 as a every day watch and love it. But for a dress watch I usually pull out one of my Limited Edition Speedmasters. Not sure I would buy two 3861's when there are so many LE Speedmasters to choose from.
Mmm... panda dial. Tasty.

Until yesterday I have only ever owned hesalite Speedmasters (apart from a Mk 2 / Mk 4.5), but I am now the proud owner of the new sapphire model. For the new Speedmasters there is no contest for me - apart from the sapphire on the front I also wanted the shinier bracelet, applied logo and exhibition case back.

I think hesalite is fine, but I have always preferred the clarity of sapphire. For me it makes the watch dial pop a bit more and gives a more modern feel to the watch. So far I am finding the 'milky ring' complaint to be overblown.

Hesalite looks at home on my '57 replica, but on the Mitsukoshi dial mod I have I wish it had sapphire front and back.

That said, if I owned a hesalite plain-jane Speedmaster I would not get a second with Sapphire, as the differences are too subtle to make that worthwhile. Both are great watches.

I know this is a watch forum and we’re all slightly mad here, but I think I’d consider an alternative like a Globemaster, a Reverso, or giving five grand to charity before I went for two almost identical (I know, I know) watches.

That’s kinda what my wife said after recently finally buying a 1861. I’ve had a Speedy Reduced for several decades. Both Hesalite and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If you’ve learned how to avoid situations that cause scratches you’re good with it. I don’t look at my watches as “daily drivers” or “dress watches” or whatever. It becomes second nature to keep the left hand out of harms way. And any time it goes to service you get a fresh Hesalite crystal for free anyway. With sapphire they charge you and if you bang that up there is no way to fix it really.
