Any thoughts on this 105.002

Personally I would have to stretch to put this as Good.

remember also chart is reflective not predictive, nor proscriptive, and that prices for this kind of watch are open to debate.

when a watch falls out of Very Good, it’s often got more than one minor originality queries as well as potentially serious “attraction” issues.

so we step away from box ticking for correctness and originality, and the value becomes dependent on how attractive it is. Often a large part of the attraction will be how cheap it is.

a fine 105002 might easily sell for $30,000 or more with provenance and accessories. So one with a few problems for $8,000 might be fun. It’s that middle ground price, 15k, which is getting harder and harder to justify, without something to make you look twice.

this watch, being sold on these photos, does not deserve a risky price - that means it’s about double what many here might want to offer, given the risk.

of course those who favour condition above all else will rightly dismiss it as not worth considering.

I am not sure the seller is ready to significantly drop the price thanks to all the feedbacks I got here. Main concern is the wrong (relumed) hands in place.
Generally speaking, it sounds quite difficult to find a nice example or get a "fair but rare" example at a fair price (like this 002 but without fair price).
And from the wish of getting a pre-moon Speedmaster, I started looking for 145.022-69. Then discovered the applied logo on 145.022-68. Then I have been offered a nice 145.012 and discovered the caliber 321. I went for it and gave it back because of a non-matching movement.
Then I discovered 105.012 CBs and -65 variations to finally got interest for straight lugs 105.003. And came this quite rare 105.002.
What is a bit difficult now is to turn back and look again for 105.012, not even talking about later versions.
So I'll be patient (as I am for 2 watches I am on waiting list for...for years) and keep an active eye on the market. I'll try to win a local auction this week or consider a very nice 105.003 offered by a well known member based in California.

Personally I would get a transitional model and be done with it, but if your budget extends just get a straight lug model in the best condition you can afford.

Indeed the budget has extended.
From 8-9k€, I am now looking for up to 15-17k€ watches (inc. bracelet in this case).
But I don't want to go over this budget. This is the limit I set for an Omega.

With that kind of budget you could also get an Ed White in good condition if you are lucky, it’s really up to you.

And with luck (and patience) a nice 105.002 or a 2998.

If that is the budget I would focus on a good Ed White but fairly priced 2998s can also be found in that range. 2998s seem to be showing price softness so think you can find something attractive in that range. Lots of 2998s with issues out there so it is not an easy reference to purchase .

Within my budget, I am not sure I can find a decent 2998.
An Ed White is already a great watch to wear.

I would seriously consider a brand new Ed White (and learn patience) if that was my budget and those are my wishes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a vintage guy, but I also like modern, and the worst thing imo when diving into expensive old watches is paying top budget for a nice watch and then being stressed about ruining it. The new EW is a spot on clone (to the lume color and application), comes with a fabulous bracelet and can be worn with reckless abandon. And good luck finding a nice vintage EW for that price. Just a contrarian 2c opinion…

Hi Eugene,
My aim is to have a real pre-moon, not having a re-edition.
I already have some modern watches and I know for good that a new EW will not end on my wrist in the morning...
But "I feel like wearing a vintage today" is something that happens.
15k to 17k is achievable for an original EW I believe and as you mentioned, I just need patience.

Old. Ask the seller to move ALL hands away from 12 to the 3 /9 position. And take a sharp picture .......kind regards. Achim
Another high time ticket item camouflaged behind very poor pictures. I can take sharp scans with a 12 year old iPhone. One has to wonder how can a seller achieve such poor pictures?

Here are extra pictures of the watch I finally had in hand. Dial is nice. Bezel is ok as well. Second chrono hand is relumed.
Lugs edges are more than soft...my cousin who is jeweller does not even want to refresh the case a bit because of its condition...

Looks like polished until death

It's a crime what people do to cases. I'd rather have an original case with lots of nicks and scratches than refinished case.
