I have been offered a 16800 from 1982 for £6k , the seller is firm on this . I'm far from an expert on this reference and if anyone can offer any thoughts or feedback good or bad it will be appreciated & used in the never ending learning curve of the watch world .
Thanks guys , I have seen the watch in the flesh finally. The serial number begins with 7.2 & the bracelet clasp is a G so pretty much makes it a transitional 16800 matte dial .The insert isn't the best but it's all original & could be replaced later but it looks blueish grey which I quite like the look of . And I now have some better quality pictures for you all to give it the once over .
After some haggling with the seller & me pointing out the watches obvious flaws , the deals been done . It will now Join my other watches & be worn in rotation as I don't buy watches that I don't wear . No safe queens for me .
Love that the 16800 has the matte dial but with a more modern movement and the sapphire glass - it doesn’t feel as fragile as other Rolex from that era but still has ‘the look’. Very happy with it!
