Any T17 Omega's out there?

Going through internet I am getting mixed feelings as to whether or not I should give my T17 an overhaul.
Some say if it runs ok don't touch it, never know what's going to happen during service and damage may be irreversible, others swear by servicing as a only way to keep it in a good shape for another lifetime.
I'm definitely with second group but I am still very anxious about handing it to some stranger.
Bloke I found seemed trustworthy and has some vintage Rolexs, Breitlings and Omegas with certificates etc on display and this automatically puts him on top of others I've found around here but I shouldn't take it for granted I reckon.

Could anyone recommend a trusted Watchmaker in the UK? I've tried to get in touch with Mark Lovick from YT, he used to be local to me but it seems like he lives abroad now
.
If not a name, then perhaps some tips on how should I speak with the watchmaker, what points to make to minimize the risk, are there any specific things about T17 that must be pointed out?

Anything will help 😀

It is not a miracle to service a T17 - so any competent watchmaker (not a battery changer) should be able to perform a service... don´t be so anxious

@Rman what an incredible find, beautiful watch. Love the strap colour, it really works and the detail on the buckle.
Will you wear the watch? It would be a bit of a dilemma for me, albeit one that wouldn’t stop me buying one if I had the chance 😁
Thanks for posting

Thanks for the compliments, yes that alligator strap seems to be the original.
I’m not sure I’ll wear this one, it’s a bit small for me but I find these tanks and smaller round watches wear really nicely on a bracelet when you want to ‘beef’ it up a bit.

Im in the process of getting this serviced and dial replaced.
I' d leave the original dial personally. Its gorgeous despite its state.
But maybe I'm biased cause it's similar to mine

I have a movement only, as mentioned earlier in this thread. I have been through my stash several times, looking for other stuff, always mindful that I need to keep a sharp eye, for its case. Thus far, no such luck. Drat!

Thanks for that , what is the difference and circa what year it is ?

The construction of the movements is not the same. Well, these are two different calibers. Actually, according to Omega classification, the T17 is a "tonneau" (rectangle lile) and the R17,8 is supposed to be a round movement (I agree it not that clear!).

You movement is from the early 1940's.

Cheers,
François

The salmon dial is a franken (came from a beaten US case) but thought it needed something better.

Thanks a lot , it was my grandfathers watch, I never met him but I feel this watch is a link to him, I use it every time I stay at home.
