Any Pilots actually use a “Pilots Watch”

My FIL was an Army helicopter pilot in the 60s and 70s through multiple combat tours in SE Asia. He wore a Seiko Bellmatic, now in the possession of my BIL. I had a photo somewhere, but I can't find it. It's more or less like this. Unfortunately, I never got to meet him, so I don't know why the alarm function was important to him.
