Took a little stroll down a street known for bad happenings. So many cops driving by I started feeling like I was doin something wrong but I was on my way to a watch shop in the 700’s (number of the street. At around 500 I realized it was going to be past my lunch break and I wouldn’t make it but saw this little shop that had some omegas and this LeCoultre. It’s a Spanish neighborhood the watchmaker didn’t speak fluent English but I think this is legit, movement was properly marked but then again I know nothing about LeCoultre so it could be a redialed POS but I like the lugs, back a bit scratched up.
Forgot my phone so no movement pics. All pics taken under harsh fluorescent that make the dial look a little worse than it is mind you it isn’t perfect.

Dial looks correct for an early 1950’s LeCoultre. Movement markings should match the dial. Probably a cal. 480, which was JLC’s workhorse movement of that time period.

Watch looks to be a smaller dress watch, 32mm to 33mm. It may be hallmarked between the lugs as gold filled or 14K gold. Almost certainly a US made case.

Then it comes down to price.

Probably bigger than 33mm but u may be right. Cost 180usd. All I know was movement was LeCoultre wish I had taken a picture but all I had was my work phone and I didn’t want to blow up my spot although in retrospect I don’t think they would care. Maybe it is 33 hard to say.

At $180 for a working LeCoultre watch, who cares what the case is made of.

Score!

Nice finding!! As said above, for 180$, great eye 😉
The patina is even, and pleasing to the eye, not much near the crown, so should have not been too much exposed to humidity and oxidation.
Congratulations!

For a moment there I thought you passed it by 😲 at that price it's a major score, maybe not the score of a life time but one you will never forget.

Almost didn’t get it as I didn’t have all cash and this guy doesn’t like credit cards (probably been beat) but I gave him my business card which showed I worked about a mile a way and offered to provide my ID, if I had cash probably could have got it for less.
The constellation was strange dial font looked good except for the SWISS at the bottom of the dial but perhaps it was just distortion the shop was kind of dark. I will be heading back

Day two at the bodega. I’m not much into project watches but 75 bucks for this. Not running but I’ll give it a go.

It’s pure luck I have no time for anything lately just stumbled upon this place by chance. He is bringing in some “good stuff” next week see what happens. I guess the secret is don’t look just stumble around.

@Duracuir1 fine leather goods can you make me an “Elvis cuff” if I can get this astronaut running.
Of course. I can even make one to match your blue suede shoes… I had a coffin link bracelet and sold it to Norfolk. He might still have it. Nice watches. Well-done.

Congratulations and two amazing scores! I don't own a JLC yet, but I've got two accutron and they are incredibly accurate watches. Rob Berkavicius is who I have service mine.
