I just picked up this Borgel/Taubert cased Alpina. It’s quite a lovely watch at 34mm with a really nice dial layout. I also really like the Borgel crown with the Alpina triangle mark. Good stuff. Inside is the manual wind cal 598.

I find FB cased watches to be quite desirable given their history with waterproofing and robust case design. They also have a really nice shape with distinctive lugs that are often drilled. Alpina as a brand is also an interesting with a rich history and great advertising.

Who else here has an interest in this particular brand?

Yes they are fantastic watches, and look better on the wrist than in pictures. The cases are so well designed and constructed…good enough for Patek. A lot of watch for not a lot of money. What’s not to like?

Alpina caught my eye. There is something special about them.
Thanks for sharing!
Anyone else have pictures.

An Omega, Alpina and Longinese mid century grouping would make and interesting composition.

I have owned many, and typically considered them to represent unusually good value. This one was eventually sold to a Japanese dealer.

Jim, it's fun when you can find an ad for the watch that's on your wrist.

I happen to have an almost similar Alpina De Luxe with a lovely Borgel/Taubert case, Cal 592 with small seconds hand.

A lovely watch indeed, which I'm not keeping though as I'm apparently unable to stop reverting back to early 60s automatics.
Unfortunately I tried to set time when the watch was very cold, which for some reason made only the minutes hand move, resulting in a pretty weird minutes/hour combo, as eagle-eyed folks will have no doubt have noticed.

This is and has been for quite a while my favourite watch: a gorgeous Alpina President from 1963, almost certainly with an AS 1701 inside, running with less than 5 seconds/day offset.

And for folks into Alpina cal 598 with Borgel/Taubert cases: recently stumbled on this breathtaking beauty currently offered for sale here in Switzerland.
Luckily it is priced quite a bit outside of what I'd consider sensible, so little danger for me.
