Any idea as to what I have here?

Hi there,

I recently picked up this Longines pocket watch. I purchased it on Ebay for what I think was a good price. It was a bit impulsive, but such is life.

Can anyone tell me any info about it? I’m wondering about the reference number and if the dial is original. The watch is also apparently not running so I’ll have to find a watch maker willing to work on it.

Anyways, any info at all would be helpful!

Beautiful dial! Not reprinted. Looking at the serial, the movement was produced around 1936. I also think it is recased. Swiss movements being officially imported into the US in that period usually had an "LXW" import mark.

Thank you! Would it likely have been recased by Longines in the United States? Or was it common for local jewellers to recase watches?

There is no way for us to know how and when a 90 year old watch was re-cased. It could have been done 75 years ago or last week. But as noted above, the movement does not have a US import code, so most likely that is not the original case.

“The Keystone Watch Case Company, operating from 1880 to 1956, was a major player in the watch case industry, initially focusing on gold and silver cases, later absorbing gold-filled case business and trademarking the Keystone symbol.“

My guess is that the movement was re-cased by a Jeweler. Nice looking piece.
