Never heard of it or the movie until now. Could be a typical example of Hodinkee puffing something up to snare the casual-but-rich into yet another not-so-special offering on the way.

Have to strongly disagree there. Interstellar (released less than a decade ago), is already considered one of the best sci-fi films of all-time.

Hence, the watch (which played a strong role in the actual plot), will be special to many people. At 42mm it was huge for many wrists (especially because of the L2L), but this compact size is perfect, and will probably be a very popular model.

You mean like the nut jobs who wear star trek uniforms and go to conventions? 😁

More like the nut jobs who collect watches. Pretty sure they think the same of us 😉

I have my grandfather’s gold electric Hamilton from many years ago. And I have this automatic that I bought in around 2006, 2007, or 2008. Can’t really remember.

I have the bracelet but prefer leather. I believe it’s an ETA 7750. It’s in need of service but I haven’t found anyone local willing to work on it. Do you have any suggestions for a watchmaker? I know it’s not worth much but I like it. I’m in North Carolina, USA.

Thank you! 😀

Interstellar was probably the biggest movie of the year in 2014. It is writer/director Christopher Nolan at his best, and it's definitely worth a view.

There are certainly plenty of blowhard articles coming out of Hodinkee, but the watches in Interstellar were a noticeable part of the movie, and Hamilton making a wearable 38 mm version of this watch is a very cool thing, IMO.

My dad's Hamilton...

his parents, my grandparents ~ absolutely dirt poor apple orchard farmers & lumber mill saw sharpeners, purchased it for him when he graduated from Syracuse University after he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.

I think I have close the same watch? Hamilton 7750 powered. It's a serious hunk-o-metal on the bracelet.

In North Carolina you have our military watch forum pal Jack at IWW. He does good work.

With that history it sure makes our present day fancy-ass watches we collect look like a bugger. 👍

Is a great looking example too! Wear it in good health.

Finally found the time to put together a bracelet for the Hamilton compressor. I pieced together this beads of rice out of a bunch of remnants left over from other projects. It's all aftermarket stuff but it does the trick. I still need to tweak the head links a bit so they fit tighter but that'll have to wait until the weekend when I have more spare time. At least I can wear the thing for now as-is 😁

Own it, love it, wrote about it here:

Yes, me! Absolutely stunning value for money imho.

Khaki Field King approx 20yo

Khaki Navy Scuba 2 weeks old

Tried it on Orange Hirsch

I think I am going to order the Hamilton steel bracelet for it.
