One of, if not the most meaningful watch purchases to date - a 14k plain round model. A gift for my daughter who was born 100 years after the watch left the assembly line in 1924!

It's in really nice shape, the dial especially. Congrats! Lucky daughter!

My caliber 912 Farragut Secometer that I had converted to a wristwatch. The watch was originally owned by my wife's grandfather. The conversion was done by Brendan Frett.

Picked up a rare Diamond Tempus over the weekend. Terrible auction photos but I’m thinking the watch should clean up nicely with some TLC. It’s not surprising that this model is rare, given that it retailed for a whopping $450 USD back in 1957/8, which at that time could get you a Speedy and a nice Seamaster/Constellation!

Neither of which were gold or had diamonds.

Apples to apples.

Sure, the more appropriate comparison would be the solid 14k gold Seamaster that someone could buy and have enough money left over for a Speedmaster, or steel Constellation. I was merely highlighting the relatively steep price of the DT, which likely contributed to its rarity. It’s also somewhat surprising that the DT cost nearly 3x more than the Golden Tempus (same watch, no diamonds).

Diamonds were always expensive. Not to mention extra labor costs for setting them.

Then and now.

I think that many people forget that back in the late 50s Hamilton still had the reputation of being one of the best watch companies in the world, especially in the US. So, the premium pricing for a Hamilton makes perfect sense, not to mention the gold and diamonds used in it. Congratulations on a nice pick.

Pretty cool. Never heard of this model.

The bracelet looks like a vintage Monaco. Did the bracelet originally come with the watch?
