Got this one a while ago, still needs a service, glass and a quality strap. I do like the blue, of the 5 dollar strap. Thin o matic 500, it runs ok

Rarely see people discuss Hamilton watches here. Thinking about getting a field watch. Their new field mechanical just came out and I personally think it looks great. Should I go for the new one or stick with their old officer mechanical?Thoughts?
That new design looks smoother finished for me.
From Hamilton I have the jazzmaster chrono grey dial and the open heart rose gold leather band.

I am a longtime Hamilton collector but after a brief affair with vintage, I have opted to collect modern Hammys. Many of the modern Hamilton’s have some back-catalogue influences.

Here are a few in my collection:

Let me know if you are downsizing your vintage Hammy collection. I've been looking for a nice 50s or 60s that was made in Lancaster PA. I prefer stainless, white dial with arabic numbers, and subdial is a bonus. Cheers.

I have a few Hamiltons. To me the best bang for your buck watch brand out there. They're in tons of movies, have a long history, famous faces attached to them like Elvis and they use quality materials. What more could you ask for?

I have just reviewed this entire thread to make certain I hadn’t shown this one. Acquired in 1989 at an NAWCC mart in Portland, Ore. The venerable Hamilton, 23-jewel 950B. Acquired with a melamine dial, now fitted with a double-sunk vitreous enamel dial acquired from a collector friend. On it is my @DaveK leather lanyard.
Produced circa 1951 in a run of 4,300, one of 36,500 produced. Not as pretty a movement as the Hamilton 950 (one of which I also have), but a favourite, anyway.

Nice watch! What is the main difference with the 992B model?

Nice watch! What is the main difference with the 992B model?

Many of the parts are interchangeable with the 992B. The 950, 950 E, and 950 B all have a safety (sometimes called a motor) barrel, where the 992B has a going barrel. The 950 series are 23-jewels, where the 992B is 21-jewels. The extra two jewels on the 950B are on the barrel arbor. You can see the one extra jewel over the ratchet wheel in the barrel bridge. The plate layout is different as you will see by comparison. The were a LOT more of the 992Bs made, than there were 950s. Although the 950B is not rare, it is considered desirable by many. The 992B was the mainstay in the world of 16-size Hamilton railroad watches. The 992B is a totally different watch in comparison to the 992E and the 992.

Why is that? Was it a higher grade than the 992B?

I very much doubt that, back in the day, the owner of either a 950B or a 992B would seen any difference in the performance of the two movements, or consider the aesthetic differences between the two movements. But today, collectors consider the fact that there were far and away more 992Bs made than there were 950Bs, (relative rarity), and the improvement of the safety barrel as opposed to the going barrel. Personal preferences, I guess.

My brother gave me this one above. Its a sea scout from about 1959. Apparently a redial and not the prettiest of watches but an excellent timekeeper. Service history unknown too.
